Firefighters Extinguish Happy Valley Brush Fire

[Updated] At approximately 9.29pm tonight [May 20], the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service [BFRS] responded to a report of a confirmed brush fire in the Happy Valley area.

Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Jamal Albuoy, reported “BFRS responded to the incident with appliances from our Hamilton Station and our Port Royal Station. Each appliance was manned with 4 personnel.

“On our arrival, an area of brush measuring approximately 20 feet by 20 feet is involved with fire. Firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus manned with a fire hoseline are in the process of extinguishing the blaze”.

Update 10.28pm: Sergeant Albuoy reports, “The area involved in the fire was trees and horticultural waste. The fire has now been extinguished and firefighters are in the process of securing the scene by wetting down the area. No one was injured at the time and the incident is currently under investigation.”
