L’Alliance To Host Benefit Baroque Music Concert

May 11, 2015

L’ Alliance Française des Bermudes announced a benefit concert of Baroque music to take place at Verdmont Historic Home, a Bermuda National Trust property, in Smith’s Parish on Friday May 29th 2015 at  8.00pm.

Anne Robert and Laure Morabito, two world-class performers, are both well known to the local music enthusiasts.  The program chosen for the  evening consists of a musical parcours in 18th century Europe featuring composers from France, Germany, Italy and England and some of the best music ever written for violin and harpsichord, including works by  Handel, Corelli, Bach, Rameau and Muffat.

“I had the pleasure to perform at Vermont a couple of years ago, and I am very excited  to be here again, in this unique and charming setting, an ideal set for music of this period ” says Anne, one of the guest musicians for the evening.

The event is organized to benefit l’ Alliance Française des Bermudes, a charitable organization whose aim is to promote the French language and culture in Bermuda.   L’Alliance’s scholarship and education fund sponsors young Bermuda students every year for a trip to France in the summer allowing them to improve their knowledge of the language and to sample the culture and the cuisine firsthand.

This program has been generously supported from inception by the Christian Humann Foundation.  This year’s five winners of the concours annuel will travel to Cannes, on the French Riviera, to study for three weeks at the renowned Centre International d’Antibes.

In the last three years, l’ Alliance has offered an additional  3-4 day stay in Paris, at the end of their séjour, for the students to perfect and enjoy their knowledge of French “outside of the classroom”.  This event will help us sponsor their Paris experience.

Refreshments will be provided  from 7:30pm and patrons are invited to a champagne reception in Verdmont’s  beautiful gardens after the concert.

Tickets, priced at $65.00 for members of l’Alliance and $75.00 for non-members, can be obtained online from www.bdatix.bm or in person at Pulp and Circumstances.  Places are limited.  For additional information, contact Mariette Savoie at alliancefrancaisebda@gmail.com.  Please visit www.alliancefrancaise.bm for information on monthly events and membership.
