PLP Pays Tribute To Donawa On His Retirement

May 27, 2015

Shadow Sports Minister Michael Weeks has saluted veteran runner Jay Donawa as he announces his decision to retire from competitive distance running.

“The Progressive Labour Party would like to salute perennial Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby contender Jay Donawa as he announces his decision to retire from competitive distance running,” said Mr Weeks.

“As a 9 time second place finisher, Jay showed his determination and commitment to running this event, and while he never was able to win the Heritage Day race, we commend him for his running record.”

Mr Weeks added, “Jay has represented himself and Bermuda well in both local and overseas events over the past 2 decades and we are very proud of his performances.

“He is a class act and we hope that he will at some point transition into a role that will allow him to pass his experience and running knowledge on to the younger generation. We wish him well in his retirement!

“We also want to take this time to congratulate the winners of the 2015 Bermuda Day Half Marathon, Chris & Ashley Estwanik. They are certainly a duo to be reckoned with and we congratulate them on their victories. They have set a high standard and are inspirations for the youth of Bermuda.”

Job well done Jay…Now go and put your feet up bie’ :-)
Oh, by the way, why is it that “politics” / P.L.P. seem to be jumping out front with stuff like that which is written above?

well that’s the least they could do. if theyre not running the country then they should occupy their time with congratulations, condolences and tributes.

    • Mockingjay says:

Thats what we pay them for

    • PBanks says:

There’s nothing wrong at all about a political party expressing gratitude or support to a sportsperson, we should appreciate that they took the time out to do so and not get into “what are they scheming” talk to distract from a worthy send-off to Jay Donawa.

  2. A great runner and a great person who has left an incredible legacy. Both my sons enjoyed going up against Jay losing on many occasions especially in cross country. He always had something positive to contribute. Always. A true champion.

  3. Mr. Smooth says:

I have always been a fan of Donawa. He has represented himself, his family, the island and sport with high class. The Bermuda day race will not be the same! Also, if I am correct, Mr. Donawa was one the islands most prolific runners while running in the major races abroad.

    • PBanks says:

Agree – as a youngster growing up, Jay was always in the local limelight with his achievements at the youth level, and he’s continued to this day, setting great examples for other distance runners. A great career, well done.

  4. Charlly X says:
