100WHF To Launch Next Week In Bermuda

June 17, 2015

100 Women in Hedge Funds [100WHF] will officially launch its Bermuda location next week, at an event hosted by EY as part of the Global Fund Forum at Fairmont Southampton organised by Hedge Connection.

The 100WHF local group achieved its critical launch milestone of 100 members earlier this year and is now ready to build on its success and grow the association’s outreach on the Island. Its launch event will be held Monday, June 22 at 4 pm, at the hotel, with attendees also invited to the Global Fund Forum’s welcome reception an hour later and special rates for the June 22–24 event.

“The BDA congratulates 100WHF Bermuda and welcomes both this leading association and the Global Fund Forum event to the Island,” says Caroline Foulger, Chair of the Bermuda Business Development Agency [BDA].

The Bermuda location of 100WHF will offer women countless opportunities for connecting professionally, as well as networking, education and philanthropy, thanks to its impressive global network. We wish them great success.”

The 100WHF launch event will feature as keynote speaker Jim Rosebush, former deputy assistant to US president Ronald Reagan and chief of staff to first lady Nancy Reagan. Another special guest is Natalie Deak Jaros, Co-Leader, Americas Hedge Fund Practice at EY, who will speak about accelerating the role of women as an economic imperative.

“We have been very fortunate to have the support of Hedge Connection and EY to ensure the success of our launch event,” said Alison Morrison, Managing Director of Oyster Consulting and a member of the BDA’s Asset Management Industry Focus Group, who led the 100WHF Bermuda campaign and now is its Chair.

“We have enjoyed incredible support from women in Bermuda in all financial services industries who want to be a part of this organisation,” she added. “With our membership well above the 100 minimum requirement, we are ready now to move on to the next phase of our plans.”

Formed in 2001, 100WHF is a global organisation that links more than 13,000 professional women in the alternative investment, asset management, investor and broader financial services industry.

The group offers networking, educational and philanthropic opportunities in more than 19 locations across three continents and has raised over $36 million for philanthropic causes in the areas of women’s health, education and mentoring.

“We will be looking at hosting future educational events and providing networking opportunities for our members,” said Morrison, “and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a member to register.

Hedge Connection, a patented platform connecting investment managers with asset allocators, organises the Global Fund Forum—which, in Bermuda for the first time, brings together hedge fund managers and investors for pre-arranged, one-on-one meetings.

Grant Simmer, COO of America’s Cup Team Oracle USA, will give a keynote speech Monday night, and Premier Michael Dunkley will deliver official welcome remarks Tuesday morning. The agenda also includes an asset allocation competition, “The Pitch,” an investor panel and interactive workshops.

“We are very excited to support the launch of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Bermuda location during the Global Fund Forum,” noted Lisa Vioni, CEO of the conference producer Hedge Connection. “Our event offers a tremendous educational agenda and excellent industry networking opportunities that are closely aligned with the mission of 100WHF. In addition, Hedge Connection supports 100WHF as an Angel member.”

EY has been an active supporter of 100WHF globally for many years, and promotes female empowerment and advancement as a strong part of its branding.
