America’s Cup Trophy & Prizes Design Contest

Calling it “an opportunity for local artists to showcase their design skills”, the America’s Cup Event Authority [ACEA] is inviting artists to submit an outline for a “uniquely Bermuda trophy and/or prizes design”, saying they will commission one winning artist to design and produce an authentic trophy for the winning team and one artist to design and produce prizes for the top three ranked teams participating in the ACWS Bermuda event.

Calling all artists, artisans and graphic designers in Bermuda! You’re invited to submit an outline for your uniquely Bermuda trophy and/or prizes design. The first races of the America’s Cup in Bermuda take place this year with the America’s Cup World Series [ACWS] from Friday, October 16th through Sunday, October 18th, 2015.

This is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their design skills in a special competition. The America’s Cup Event Authority [ACEA] will commission one winning artist to design and produce an authentic trophy for the winning team and one artist to design and produce prizes for the top three ranked teams participating in the ACWS Bermuda event.

Awards Breakdown:

  • Each team consists of 5 crew members.
  • 3 teams will be called to the podium
    • Rank 1 [gold]
    • Rank 2 [silver]
    • Rank 3 [bronze]
  • Each team member for ranks 1, 2, and 3 shall receive a prize [artwork, jewelry, etc.]. Total of 15 prizes.
  • The skipper of the winning team shall receive the Bermuda ACWS 2015 trophy.

Eligibility:
The Trophy & Prizes Design Contest is open to Bermudian residents only. Board members and immediate family members of the ACBDA and ACEA are not eligible.

Entries:
submissions must be a digital file PDF or JPG format [300 dpi], 20MB maximum file size and can be sent via email to community@americascup.com along with artist’s full name, phone number and email address.

Dates:

  • Call for submissions starts: Monday, June 1st
  • Deadline for submissions of design concept idea and budget: Wednesday, July 1st
  • Artist selection: w/c Monday, July 20th
  • Selected artist notified: Monday, August 3rd
  • Final artwork delivered to ACEA: Monday, August 17th
  • Trophy and prizes submitted to ACEA: Thursday, October 1st
  • ACWS Bermuda Awards Ceremony: Sunday, October 18th

Compensation:

ACEA will reimburse the commissioned artists for the cost of producing the trophy and/or prizes. Submissions must also include a draft budget. Please note that copyright of the art will be transferred to the America’s Cup.

Selection:

The selected artist will be notified via phone or e-mail. If the selected artist does not respond to an email notice and/or phone calls of selection in a timely manner, an alternate artist may be selected at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee.

The Selection Committee will consist of America’s Cup Bermuda and ACEA representatives as well as community representatives from local arts & cultural organisations including visual arts experts, artists, curators and art historians.
