EMO To Send Test Hurricane Text Alert Today

June 10, 2015

As part of Government’s hurricane season awareness efforts, the Emergency Measures Organization [EMO] will be sending a test text message alert later today [June 10].

A spokesperson said, “The public is advised that as part of Government’s hurricane season awareness efforts the Emergency Measures Organization [EMO] will be testing the SMS/Text Message Alert system later today [June 10].

“The public will recall that the Government has a partnership with the Island’s cell phone providers Digicel and CellOne to send out alerts via text messaging to advise of hurricane and severe storm information.

“Today’s message is a test and requires no action. It simply encourages residents to be prepared for the hurricane season and advises that EMO updates can be found on social media platforms FaceBook and Twitter. The Government takes this opportunity to thank both Digicel and CellOne for their continued offer of the SMS/Text Alert as part of the EMO advisory network in hurricane awareness.”
