Team Hurricane Return To Syracuse University

June 25, 2015

The Team Hurricane Basketball Academy announced a return to Jim Boeheim Basketball Camp held on the campus of Syracuse University [Syracuse, NY], a highly ranked academic institution, from June 27th to July 1st.

Team Hurricane Founder and Head Coach, Doug Reed, is a graduate of Syracuse University, so the decision to have Hurricane players return to the Syracuse camp was any easy one, saying: “I bleed orange and blue and Team Hurricane’s return to my alma mater and its camp provides a continued opportunity to promote the school and the college experience to young people.

“Once again, Team Hurricane players will get a small taste of college life and get a chance to stay in the dorms and walk around the campus. More importantly, they’ll play competitive basketball in one of college basketball’s top venues – the Carrier Dome…although not in front of 30,000 screaming fans.”

Team Hurricane’s significant growth over the past year will allow for thirteen players to attend this year up from the five student-athletes who participated in 2014.

The roster of players who are attending the camp for 2015 are:

  • 1) Mykal Glasgow – Berkeley Institute
  • 2) Yontz Sutton – Berkeley Institute
  • 3) Raushon Tankard – Citizen’s High School
  • 4) Zachary Johnson – Mount Saint Agnes
  • 5) Jacy Lowery – Warwick Academy

Warwick Academy point guard Jacy Lowery says, “This year I hope we dominate.”

Christian Liyanange, one of the younger Team Hurricane players, will be making his first trip to Syracuse this year. The M3 student-athlete from T.N. Tatem is expecting to improve, saying: “I also want to improve my handle and game I.Q.”

Coach Reed is excited about the team’s return to Jim Boeheim’s Basketball Camp at Syracuse University. “This trip demonstrates the Team Hurricane Basketball Academy’s strength to provide a platform in which student-athletes can train, develop and reach their academic and athletic potential.

“This camp will provide Team Hurricane players the opportunity to learn the game the same way the renowned Syracuse University Orange squad is coached and will, in the process, help the sport of basketball grow in Bermuda.”

“Team Hurricane wishes to thank Tokio Millenium for their charitable donation to this Syracuse University Basketball Camp & College Experience. It is a tremendous opportunity for the players to not only improve their athletic performance but is also the sort of project initiative that Team Hurricane believes cultivates a positive attitude towards the benefits of a college education.”

“It is also just another life enriching opportunity that Team Hurricane is able to offer its student-athletes and is made possible by all who have contributed to our programs and initiatives for 2014-2015: ABWilson Photography, Ace Group, Allied World Assurance, Argus Group, Butterfield & Vallis, FIL Limited, Jardine Matheson International Services, Orbis, The Peter Cundill Foundation, Tokio Millenium, Validus RE, XL Group, Zurich Insurance Company, as well as our individual donors.

“Their gracious support allows Team Hurricane to continue to develop the youth of Bermuda through sports and education.”
