Two Males Arrested After Taxi Driver Robbed

June 9, 2015

Two males — aged 13 and 22 — have been arrested after a taxi driver was robbed by three males who were brandishing what the police termed blunt objects and a bladed article.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 12:10am on Tuesday, June 9th police received a report of a robbery. It appears that around 11:50pm Monday, June 8th a taxi driver was flagged down by an unknown male on South Road in Southampton, near the junction with Horseshoe Road.

“As the taxi stopped in the bus turn around area, the vehicle was apparently approached by three other males, two brandishing blunt objects and one brandishing a bladed article.

“The taxi driver, a 44 year old Pembroke man, had a quantity of cash and his cell phone taken; however he was not injured.

“The male that flagged down the taxi was described as light skinned, between 5’6” and 5’8” tall of stocky build and believed to be approximately 16-18 years old. He was said to be wearing grey sweat pants and a grey sweat top with a hood, while the other three males were believed to be wearing white T-shirts with other dark coloured clothing.

“Police officers promptly attended the scene and searched the surrounding area, where a 22 year old man and a 13 year old male were located and arrested in connection with this incident.

“Inquiries regarding this reported robbery continue and any witnesses or persons with relevant information should contact the Criminal Investigations Department on the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.”

  1. J Starling says:

A 13 year old? I read that right?

  2. Sad says:

This is some sick s***! Bermuda has gone maddd! Literally

    • Justin says:

PEOPLE STOP BEING IDIOTS AND THINK!
      JAIL IS NO JOKE!

      • Regina says:

Actually, I hear that our jail IS, in fact, a joke and that it does not serve as a deterrent to these criminals. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  3. PBanks says:

More disgusting behaviour. Glad the driver’s not injured and hope they’re not terribly traumatised from the experience.

Hope the crooks are nailed and dealt with.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ PBanks: I agree 100%. If convicted, then may they receive the maximum sentence permitted under local Laws so as it may deter others from such behavior/s.

      • Bill says:

Nah, they’re just gonna get a slap on the wrist and maybe a small fine. Typical Bermudian justice.

        • Andy M says:

Yeah Bill because slaps on the wrist and small fines only happen in Bermuda. You may wish to read a foreign newspaper….

  4. Bobthebuilder says:

Give us jobs or this BS continues…….

    • Cha says:

Your statement is everything that is wrong with Bermuda. Go out an earn a job!

    • Staffernee says:

Actually education spending has been show to lower crime rates over job creation.

    • Family Man says:

Why should it continue? You feel entitled to steal from others who work hard for their money?

    • Mr Stevens says:

“Give”… – not how it works. Stop the BS and go out and GET a job.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ Bobthebuilder: With an attitudes like that certain people will continue in the gutters…

    • hmmm says:

You don’t get given a job, you earn it.

      Perhaps that is your issue.

      • Riiiiiight says:

I appreciate what you’re trying to get across to this person, but I think you know that statement isn’t exactly true. There’s been many an unearned job given in this country

        • Rhonnie aka BlueFamiliar says:

In this country, and every other on the planet.

Bermuda did not create the term ‘nepotism’

    • Awake says:

What an asinine remark! I guess you’re a punk like the rest of the robbers who use stealing from others as an excuse!

    • Sad says:

Yeah I’m sure the 13 year old was upset he couldn’t find a full time job…sigh

Kids do stupid things sometimes while under the influence of their elders.

    • Bermyman says:

@bobthebuilder. Nahh rather than give the likes of you a job, I would rather have you publicly flogged for stealing.

  5. A little wisdom says:

And that narcisistic fool of a Premier/ transport minister along with his party insisted and mandated through legislstion that taxi drivers wear seat belts. Fearing this, I have been fined and will not wear the belt. Do not want to get into the habit just in case when I am driving my taxi I forget, leaving more vulnerable as a driver and also that I am not in my private car.
Hoping that the current minister relaxes this regulation/ law for taxis. I do note that this law does not apply tobus drivers.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ A little wisdom: It should. Also what needs to be looked into is operators of either public transportation playing radio/music too loud and often not pleasant to their passenger taste :-(
Safety seatbelts can / have saved lives.

    • Bermyman says:

right! The premier is a fool and you the taxi driver who would rather his face go through a windscreen are the genius!?

Let me guess, you drive in the middle of the road, don’t indicate and park wherever you please?

  6. Staffernee says:

Bermuda taxis need to switch to using card machines or some sort of uber service to help avoid this foolishness.

  7. Terry says:

    “Bobthebuilder”.

How the hell we supposed to build with the s*** you type on the net.
Your causing more harm than anything.
    Your a moron.

    • Tolerate says:

Terry; they don’t understand what your saying because in their mind, its truly what they believe. It comes from the continuous repetition of other idiots they listen to. You read it with your own eyes “Give us jobs or this BS continues..”
Tell you what; pop on in to rob me and I’ll change your whole attitude bie.

  8. obvious says:

This is actually sad. 13? Everyone keeps saying “give us jobs” but they aren’t going to come. Save your money, move to the UK (don’t rely on benefits forever) and start a life for yourself.

  9. WhistleBlower says:

Lol Bob do you really think that was a clever comment? It is a threat and in order to comment on here you have to submit an email!!
If the police knock on your door and drag your off to the “office” for question then charge you my question then would be: “Was it really that funny?”

    • Terry says:

at this rate Bob will be building cakes in the Westgate kitchen soon.
      Sadition is a.

    • Bobthebuilder says:

      Take it.how u like….

    • Bobthebuilder says:

Not meant to be funny. This is serious and so am I. Bermudians are being made slaves.in their own.country. nvm.lol.you.will.see….

      • yess says:

To be “given” a job, as you say Bob, you have to be QUALIFIED to work that job. Which means schooling or special trade schools. Bermudians are making them selves “slaves” because they think they are too good work work basic jobs (pot washers, etc) and then those jobs go to Expats. Who are hated for it. Bermudians “want” better jobs but to have a better job, sacrifices must be made…like GOING TO SCHOOL AND EARNING A JOB.

    • Bermerican says:

I agree that the comment made was really stupid but he could be using a false email address as well. Just saying…

  10. A little wisdom says:

This also another reason why as long as there are no barriers in the taxi , the regulations should state that no taxi should have to carry more than $25 float. So many times passengers leave a bar or cash machine, then tender a $50 or $100 to the driver for a $15 ride. At cash machines they can easily punch in $40 or $90. But, better still, keep the small change for yhe ride home.
There are many issues that need to be addressed but, the authorities do not care and many owners and drivers feel resigned to their fate.

  11. D says:

Smh go get ya education and make ya own money, oh my bad ya names gonna be in the system soooo u will be a bum lol

  12. Bobthebuilder says:

Maybe i.should.say.make jobs available. I work @$$ holes. For a foreigner who cares nothing for locals. I get mistreated and under payed withno insurance. It was what was available.

Like I said before…with a lil more tact.

Make Jobs Available Or the BS continues….

    • Varied says:

Regardless of one’s financial situation, it’s beyond wrong to act out and steal from your fellow man who’s working hard to make ends meet. No excuses.

    • Zevon says:

I think we can see who the @$$ hole is.

    • yess says:

It is illegal not to have insurance in Bermuda.

Or are you saying, you pay your own insurance?

  13. Kiskadee says:

And the 13 year old will be taked to nicely and he will continue to be a criminal

  14. Onion says:

The crime will go on. as there is no punishment for these animals…. They will go to court and get dismissed with a warning

  15. Zina Malcolm says:

When a thirteen year old is robbing grown folk alongside of other grown folk, there has to be something terribly amiss. The child is likely in an environment without parents, without positive influence. His future may be dim. I hope that along with whatever punishment is meted out, our social services is funded sufficiently to be able to find a programme to rehabilitate him. Good, bad or evil, whoever this child is, he is ours and I’d rather pay for him to be reformed than pay for decades of jail terms and the crimes that send him there.

  16. seriola says:

Put them in the stocks for a few days and let them Facebook that

  17. Jean says:

Smh…..Bda Taxi Drivers need to have their cars fitted like those in foreign countries. No front seat drivers ( unless you feel safe) Have a secured wire grill placed over the back seats of the driver and front passenger seats. Make sure the criminals can’t unscrew them!! Have a little slot to take the cash or a swipe card in the back with the print-out in the front by the driver. Push the receipt back in the slot to the passengers. Also, keep them child locks on the back doors/windows, so your passengers can’t escape without paying or robbing you. A bit extreme, but you have to be smarter than a “5th grader”

  18. Oh,I see now says:

Big surprise…….even rotten kids every now and again emerge from good homes with good parents.I’ve seen times one kids doing the revolving door cha cha with Westgate and the other child is either in law enforcement or with the clergy.
