July 21, 2015

Following a meeting held after the Cleveland County Cricket Club vs Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club match, the Eastern County Cricket Association said they will award Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club the Eastern County Trophy.

A spokesperson said, “The ECCA is continuing its deliberations into the game held on July 18, 2015 between Champions Cleveland County Cricket Club and challengers Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.

“An emergency meeting of the Associates in which the Game Manager’s Report was presented for consideration was held on July 19, 2015. As a result, a motion was presented and the resultant vote was to award Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club the Eastern County Trophy.

“Cleveland County Cricket Club expressed their desire to and will be allowed to appeal the decision. A final decision to award the Eastern County Cup will be made once the appeal process has been completed.

Cricket was the big loser on Saturday. Happy to see the ECCA have stepped up where the match umpires did not. I for one was boycotting the next game as I didn’t want to see such poor behavior rewarded.

Fans of Cleveland were disgusted at their own team’s time wasting and deplorable actions.

Hopefully this encourages good sportsmanship in the upcoming games. Cup Match included.

BAY ALL DAY!! AIN’T NO BREEZE LIKE DAT SEA BREEZE!!!

  3. Name and Bert Date says:

They didn’t want to have to give up the cup so soon after having to wait 33 years for it… I can kind of understand their desperation but better luck next year CCCC… Let’s go Bay!

  4. cricket fan says:

What about the behaviour of most bay players and fans after game. Fighting , threats, lets not just bash cleveland. Bays behaviour was bad also. Good luck holding the cup.

Firstly if the game was played according to the rules how can the ECCA vote to give Bay the cup?
If there was bad behaviour from the players then the hastily assembled Committee has done the game a dis service.
The players and not the Club should be punished. This is a great loss to OUR beloved gentlemans game.
To the ECCA revisit and you will see that your hasty decision was done in the heat of the moment and not in ALL fairness of the true game of Cricket.
As a former spectator ALL teams waste time in this game so then again the Umpires should be dealt with according to the rules of the game.
Lastly i applaud Clay Smith for his decision that the Umpires failed to give him credit for what he wanted to do which would haved changed the game.
Cleveland fight for your rights and don’t allow the decision to hinder your progress

I did not attend this game but it seems to me Cleland are now been punished after the fact for the lack of action by the Umpires. How can a team be punished for actions the umpires allowed? Seems to me they should replay the game and punish the umpires!
