“Large Quantity Of Cash” Stolen In St David’s

July 1, 2015

[Updated] The police are currently investigating the theft of a “large quantity of cash” which they said was stolen from an unattended car parked in St. David’s.

“The Bermuda Police Service is currently investigating the reported theft of a large quantity of cash,” a police spokesperson said.

“The money was apparently removed around 8:30pm Monday, June 29th from an unattended car parked in the vicinity of St. David’s Primary school.

“The lone culprit, described as 6 feet tall of medium to stocky build wearing black clothing and a black helmet, fled on foot along Great Bay Road.

“Any witnesses or persons with relevant information regarding this incident should contact the Criminal Investigations Department on 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477 at the earliest opportunity.”

Update 12.20pm: The money that was stolen was from the sales of spots for the Annual Eastern County Game Series to be held in St. David’s, and the admission wrist bands were also stolen, and due to this the wrist bands that were stolen will not be accepted for admission to this year’s series.

A statement from the ECCA said, “On Monday June 29th, a large sum of cash along with the admission wrist bands for the 3 Eastern County games for 2015 was stolen from the St. David’s Cricket Club grounds.

“The funds were the result of the collection of sales for spots for the Annual Eastern County Game Series to be held in St. David’s this year. The Eastern County Family is especially saddened by this callous theft.

“Consequently, we would like for those who have purchased spots, and the general public, to know that the wrist bands that were stolen will not be accepted for admission to this year’s series.

“Anyone who has purchased a spot are asked to bring their wrist band allocations and their receipt from the spot sales to the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club on July 11th between 1:00pm and 6:00pm to have them replaced. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident.

“Police are currently conducting an investigation into the matter and the Eastern County Family urges anyone who may have any information to please contact the Bermuda Police Service.

“The Eastern County Cup Series has been in place since 1904 and involves the teams from St. David’s Cricket Club, Tucker’s Town Cricket Club [now known as Cleveland County Cricket Club], Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club and The Flatt’s Victoria Recreational Club.

“This year’s series will take place at Lord’s in St. David’s and will be played on July 18th, August 15th and August 29th. The Champions, Cleveland County Cricket Club will open their defense of the coveted trophy against Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.

“The remaining fixtures will see Flatt’s play second and St. David’s play the final match.”

  1. Loitering says:

There has been increased loitering in St. Davids recently. The spots are at the dock down by the Black Horse Tavern, at the top of hill from the Gas Station and the old variety store up past St. Luke’s Church. The majority of people loitering are dealing illegal drugs or using. This would be a good place to start looking:)

    • Dockboyz says:

I bet you are not even from Std. We guys not even selling drugs here. Beers and fishing you hating.

    • dock boy says:

I guess your the one behind it all. Give guys jobs and they won’t hang out. Otherwise shut up.

      • Toodle-oo says:

There we go again . The old ‘give guys jobs’ line. Nothing more to be said at this point .

Oh, and by the way , I hope you’re not like the guys who fish and drink beers at my neighborhood public dock.

Fishing line , empty/broken beer bottles , rank/rotten bait packages , trash and broken lawn furniture left everywhere not to mention the awful odor of male urine .
Do you clean up after yourselves leaving the public facilities immaculate as though you’ve never been there in the first place ?

        • Lol says:

I was with you until you said “awful odor of male urine.” For the record, women’s urine stinks too. Lol.

          • PBanks says:

I didn’t even know you could tell the difference between male and female urine by a smell test.

      • Jus' Wonderin' says:

get off ya a** n find a job lmfao…it will NEVER be given to you bra

      • serengeti says:

Yeah, I’m sure they’re desperate to do actual work.

      • Loitering says:

If the shoe fits wear it my friend. In order for me to know these places I have to live there. It is drug sales and use:)

As a community, we are tired, we have children and this madness has to stop. Get your own job like we all do but of course if your using drugs that would be very hard to do.

Stealing money from a community center is not the way to go and trust me if we know something we will tell something:)

I see you have access to the internet; you have to pay for that so times can’t be that hard for you:)

      • JUNK YARD DOG says:

The government gives free basic education what people do with it is their business.

    • Islander says:

I could tell your not from st davids! & don’t know any of the guys that your talking about! You sound dumb af! Know facts before you start talking.

  2. glendabermuda says:

I hope thie thief is caught!!!!
    Hang in there Warriors!!!!

  3. PBanks says:

That’s a dang shame for St’ David’s CC and the Eastern Counties. Opportunistic crooks are freaking everywhere.

    • HOTDOG says:

Who in their mine leaves that amount of cash in a unattended car and walks off

    • darlene richardson says:

why put the moneys in car,wow

    • Onion juice says:

Key word is unattended, so you think no one was watching when they were giving out wrist bands and collecting the money for the spots.
      Come on you bies.

  4. Islander says:

I believe ECCA is fully accountable. A few years back they took over of all financial dealings and then they split the money between the teams that play and they take a cut as well. What they do with their cut remains a mystery. I don’t think the clubs should be made to suffer because of ECCA negligence. The theft is unfortunate but nobody leaves that type of money in a damn car.

    • justice for all says:

You are absolutely right, who leaves that kind of money in a car??? I still can’t believe someone actually did that

  5. BlessYourHeart says:

The irony is that he most definitely made off with more cash than the guy that robbed the bank.

  6. Thinker says:

When caught not only should he/the repay they should be sentenced to maintain the teams of the Eastern Counties for 2 years!!!
    Thieving Boggers!!!!

  7. Islander says:

Guys at the dock do get rowdy at times but calm down after while like anywhere else give Mr Roque quite a bit of business 2 the guys sitting on the wall are not harming anybody just biding time and enjoying the cool of the evening and directing traffic around that blind corner going towards the club
why the ECCA says this happened on the club’s property somebody doesnt know the difference between the school and club property the hedge separates them and it didnt happen at the club at all Hold em Warriors

  8. ROGER LAMBERT says:

Has this same type of Non-chalant way of getting the money to a secure place been happening through the years? Someone caught on! BEWARE CUP MATCH ORGANIZERS!

  9. justice for all says:

I’m not perfect, but I could say with certainty that I wouldn’t have left $ in my car! I won a little $500 bingo and before I came home I made an ATM deposit. If I couldn’t make that deposit, trust me I wouldn’t have left that 500 bucks in my car!!!! Well everyone is so different that’s what it comes down to

  10. St. D says:

Mental note – never publicly collect a huge quantity of cash and then in front of an audience leave it in your car. With all these car thefts going on, it was a wonder they didn’t take the car as well.

  11. frank says:

well the question to ask is why was the money not taken to the bank after it was collected and why was it just left in a car

  12. Redman says:

More ECCA bumbling no doubt. Just like the fiasco surrounding the sale of spots. Rest assured people; no heads will roll though for this. These actions have to be the new description for dumb!! Sighs.

So why wasn’t the money taken directly to a Bank night deposit box? Failing that St DCCC has (had?) a safe inside so why wasn’t the money put there until they left to take it to drop in the bank?.

I guess it was considered normal to place that amount of money in a car & leave it unattended. Especially when you consider the car was parked over by the school & not in front of the club where it could be closely monitored. That was also real stroke of genius. SMDH

    Here’s your sign!!

  13. just saying says:

They should have left it the way it was before!! The club’s delta with the money and split it according… And as for the dock in St. David’s that’s gone to he.. Growing up I use to jump off that dock (all us kids) now you can’t even take children there due to the drugs alcohol and bad language.. my grandson and some friends went there to go fishing and the guys there made them leave. And you wonder why the youth of today get in trouble!! We’re is the role models? Sitting at the dock…. And not fishing!!
