Premier On Pre-JMC; Departs For Portsmouth

July 25, 2015

Following the completion of the Pre-Joint Ministerial Council [JMC] Meetings, which have been termed as “quite productive”, Premier Michael Dunkley is currently in the UK for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth which takes place today [July 25] and tomorrow.

The Premier who departed Bermuda last evening, will be joined by the Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Grant Gibbons, and the two will be representing the Bermuda Government at the event. Members of the public can watch live coverage of this weekend’s Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth on ZBM.

As the public is aware, Bermuda is hosting the 2017 America’s Cup, which will see the next leg of the America’s Cup World Series races taking place this October in the Great Sound.

As it relates to the conclusion of the Pre-JMC Meetings, Premier Dunkley said, “We had a very productive series of meetings where some very critical issues were discussed. Each territory has some concerns that are very unique to their specific countries.

“However the common thread during our two days of talks is that if we are to make any progress in at the Joint Ministerial Council Meetings later this year in London, then we must present a unified front so that we can achieve a beneficial outcome for all our countries. I was encouraged by the input and support from all the Overseas Territories Leaders in attendance and I look forward to seeing them again later this year at the JMC.”

Leaders attending the meeting included Premier of the British Virgin Islands Dr. Orlando Smith, Premier of Cayman Islands Alden McLaughlin, Premier of Turks & Caicos Dr. Rufus Ewing, Deputy Premier of Montserrat Dolmades Ryan, Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands Roger Anthony Edwards; while Ascension Island, Tristan Da Cunha, St Helena and Pitcairn were being represented remotely.
