August 21, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Aug 21],a 43-year-old man pleaded guilty to wounding a female coworker earlier this month, with the Court hearing he struck her with a piece of wood.

Omar Furquan pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding a woman, a co-worker, on 5th August 2015.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Archie Warner that Mr Furquan and the victim were both employed at Dunkley’s warehouse in Devonshire. Mr Furquan had been having discussions with the woman in regards to payments that she apparently owed him.

The Court heard that Mr Furquan had subsequently taken the woman’s bike and put it inside a workspace. Then a heated discussion followed, and then Mr Furquan struck her with a piece of wood and knocked her to the ground, resulting in her sustaining cuts and bruises.

Duty Counsel told the Magistrate that Mr Furquan, who he said was the sole provider for his family, had now lost his job.

Magistrate Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report and set sentencing for 29th September.
