Improv Bermuda To Begin “Press Play” Series

September 11, 2015

The first in a new series of shows from Improv Bermuda, called Press Play, is set to take place today [Sept 11] at the Bermuda Society of Arts [BSOA], with the public invited to grab a seat for “a playful night of improv theatre and other guest performances.”

A spokesperson said, “If you like the TV show “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” and you like the arts, then this night is for you.

Toby Butterfield of Improv Bermuda said, “BSOA have such an amazing space at the top of City Hall that when they asked if we’d like to perform in it I almost fell over. Our troupe has been performing in various spots for years, mostly for charity, and our shows sell out but finding the right performance space is really hard.

“I already loved this gallery and I’m always excited to attend the exhibition openings because they bring together such a diverse and interesting group of folks. So the space is inspiring for lots of reasons and when we perform on Friday we are going to use the art on display to inspire our improvised scenes.”

“Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation are having their annual show so the place is full of colourful, eclectic art from Bermuda’s children. So for example, for one scene we’ll have the audience point to an art piece that depicts a location and we’ll use that as our location for the scene. We have so much fun. I can’t wait.

“The main improv performers will be Julia Pitt, Toby Butterfield, and crowd favourite Gavin Carter. Part of the show’s concept is to feature new artists each time to perform alongside the improv antics. This first show will include the ever-awesome spoken word artists Yesha Townsend and Stephan Johnstone.

“The proceeds will be split between BSOA and the performers so this is a great way to have an entertaining night and support local arts at the same time.

“The show is this Friday, September 11th, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. Tickets are available through BDAtix or at the door subject to availability. $15 or $12 for BSOA members.

“The next Press Play show will be Friday, November 13th.”
