Man Pleads Guilty To Multiple Theft Offences

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 28], a 42-year-old man pleaded guilty to entering dwellings as a trespasser and stealing a number of items including fish, lobster, television, iPad, a cell phone and multiple items of jewelry.

Anthony Richardson, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offences which occurred at different residences in the Southampton area earlier this month.

The Court heard he stole $520 worth of fish and lobster on September 13th; a television, cellular phone and gold pendant worth a combined $900 on September 19th; and some $7,559 worth of jewellery and electronics on September 25th.

Richardson also admitted that he had stolen tools on 5th September; had escaped from lawful custody on 23rd September; and was away from his place of abode and in possession of an article for use in the course of burglary.

Richardson was caught and arrested by police on 25th September. Magistrate Tokunbo ordered Social Inquiry and BARC reports, set sentencing for 18th November, and remanded Richardson into custody until that date.

A police spokesperson said, “Today a 42 year old man of no fixed abode was put before the courts for a series of burglaries that took place on the island in recent weeks.

“The man pled guilty to 9 counts of burglary, 1 count of going equipped, 1 count of escaping lawful custody and one count of resisting arrest.

“The arrest of the 42 year man is a result of a targeted investigation centered around the neighborhood affected by recent series of break ins. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance, as we know that personal and invasive nature of burglaries.
