September 14, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 14], a 53-year-old man pleaded guilty to stealing cash, beer, ketchup, relish, mustard and chicken breasts.

Dean O’Brien pleaded guilty to stealing food and cash from KEMH; stealing beer, ketchup, relish, and mustard from the Grotto Bay Hotel; and stealing burgers and chicken breasts from a freezer at the Mid Ocean Club.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that the thefts had been recorded on CCTV systems and that O’Brien had been positively identified from these CCTV images. That after he had been located, arrested, and questioned by police, O’Brien admitted all the thefts.

Asked if he had anything to say, Mr O’Brien told the Magistrate that: “I haven’t anything to say. I have been out of prison for five years. I have a full time job.”

The Crown cited Mr O’Brien’s record which went back to 1984 and included past convictions.

The Magistrate ordered pre-sentencing reports, set sentencing for 30th October and granted Mr O’Brien bail at $5,000 and ordered Mr O’Brien to report every Monday and Wednesday to Hamilton Police Station.
