Sandys Boat Club Assists With Disabled Vessel

September 7, 2015

The “kind assistance” of the Sandys Boat Club helped to see a stranded boat back to its moorings after its anchor line became wrapped around its propeller yesterday [Sept 6].

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Sunday, September 6 at 6.34pm, the owner of a 35′ Tiara called “MAXIME” called BMOC requesting assistance after the vessel became disabled in Mangrove Bay, when the anchor line became wrapped around the propeller.

“The vessel had five people are board, and none were equipped with a knife to cut the line free of the propeller. The Duty Officer at Bermuda Radio broadcasted an all vessels request for assistance. The Duty Officer also contacted Sandy’s Boat Club, and one of it’s members volunteered to assist.

“Through the kind assistance of the Sandys Boat Club individual, the snagged anchor line was cut free, and the vessel was towed back to its mooring.”

Amazing! A 35′ vessel & no knife onboard! No tool kit either I guess. I’d think twice about going out with that skipper.

Wrapping line around a prop on a inboard boat is no fun. Been there. Done that. Right infront of Flatts Bridge, inlet side. Yes, I had a sharp knife onboard to help myself.
