  1. The Dark Knight Returns says:

This is tragic on every level. When is Government gonna take this serious. Children fight almost daily in Hamilton and it seems like the school authorities just make excuses for the students involved and rarely hold them and or the parents responsible.

    • Why says:

It’s not the government that needs to take this serious but the parents! They are the ones responsible for the actions of their children. Parents need to get more involved so that their children know that this behavior isn’t to be tolerated!! Sad that this incident occurred. Hoping the injuries weren’t too serious.

    • Rock watcher says:

Why do u make goernment responsible for this…..the parents need to take responsability for their children……

    • bermy guy says:

everyone needs to take responsibility it doesnt matter whether you come from a good home or not good kids get caught up too. stop passing the blame around and society as a whole needs to take responsibility and deal with the core issues of these problems.

      • Wow says:

I disagree with you. It’s not my problem that someone else’s kid decides to be a bully. I’m not waiting for society or someone else to step in and raise my kids. I’ve taught my kids right from wrong and if they don’t follow that path then its my responsibility until they’re of legal age. A 12 year old knows right from wrong, he/she should also be held accountable. If they’re not held accountable at some point they will become adults thinking that its everyone’s problem but theirs when they do wrong.

    • Educator says:

      @ the dark knight returns
So it is your opinion that the schools are solely responsible for teaching children how to govern themselves in public – outside of school?
Interesting stance… Interestingly, the parents who have not taught their children how to act and have lost control, are the ones who often share your view. It’s called passing the blame… Schools play a role, but alone cannot and will not resolve this communal issue.

  2. Some things never change…..

  3. Oh no says:

Oh no hope he is ok. Why do kids think fighting is the answer to things. Gosh so sad. I hope he recover soon. So sad

    • Family Man says:

Probably take their cue from our MP’s like Derrik Burgess and he who shall not be named.

  4. Seriously says:

Set upon??? Get real. He was attacked, let’s be real here for just one second!

  5. Yes I says:

This is a part of human nature however this kind of activity has been going on for decades in Bermuda with it being swept under the rug. Many of these children are victims of affluence and them acting out violently is a result of them being spoiled. Discipline has been frowned upon lately in the community but a good ole belt lashing can help curb some deviant behavior.

  6. Homeschool says:

Homeschool. Learn more and safer. I know from experience.

  7. SMH says:

Yes I hope he recovers fully and doesn’t have any lasting effects. Poor sight. This is so sad. Nobody deserves to be double banked!!! Those boys should be made to wear signs and stand at Crow Lane!!! They need punishment that will embarrass them!!! Old fashion punishment for these rude kids!! Parents train your boys!!

    • Betty Boop says:

Oh Lord, I agree but Mrs. Cooper won’t. I applaud any parent who does those things, really embarrass those children.

  8. nuttyboyselecta says:

    Free my boy!!

  9. sweet black says:

firstly who cares what Mrs. Cooper has to say, as parents we have the right to correct our children when they are misbehaving its not society job to make sure our kids do the right thing its us as parents.
Secondly this issue of our minors assaulting each other is so wrong. I hope and pray this little boy is ok. I feel for the parents of this little boy at this time as I myself have a 12yr old son and I would not like to know this can happen to my son. The mindset of our young people needs to change.

  10. This is another and situation involving our children. It takes a village to raise a child. Our children are our responsibility. We teach them from the womb, then at home then we send them to school to have what we teach them reinforced. We cannot keep pointing our fingers at teachers or the government. Kids go home to their parents after school, not to teachers homes or government politicians homes. Far too many times parents stick up for their kids when they do wrong. It’s OK to support them but don’t defend their wrong rude disrespectful doings. If us parents would communicate face to face, around the dinner table together or on outings together, our kids might be more behaved. Some make lil monsters out of kids then expect society to change what they created and laughed at, thinking their kid was cute learning how to curse, spit, bite and not use their manners. I pray that God will protect our children as they go into the world, especially the kids that are bringing themselves up. lord have mercy!

  11. Come on now says:

I’m struggling with the last part of this article: “Reports reaching the Department of Education suggest that the injuries were not borne of malicious intent, but of careless recreational behaviour.”

This makes is sound like the kids responsiible will be getting off with a slap on the wrist, which is not acceptable.

  12. Will says:

This is why children should be smacked with a ruler at school. My generation was and there was definitely no incidences like this occurring especially in our middle school years! Bring back de cane!
