BELCO: 46 Customers Remain Without Power

October 7, 2015

[Updated] BELCO began the day with approximately 500 customers without electricity, and crews are continuing to work on major branch lines where restoration often requires extensive work, but affects a higher number of customers.

A spokesperson said, “Today’s weather report indicates mostly good conditions, which should enable our crews to continue making good progress.  We are working towards having power restored to all customers within the next 36 – 48 hours.

The following areas are scheduled to be addressed today:

  • Landmark
  • Benny Bay Road
  • Spring Hill
  • Rockland
  • Cove Valley
  • Old Road
  • Rose Hill
  • Mount Hill
  • Fairylands
  • Hibiscus Lane
  • Point Shares
  • Cut Road
  • Church Folly
  • Chapel of Ease
  • Pain Lane
  • Boundary Lane

“In addition, other crews are also out working on less complicated jobs across the Island. It should be noted that some customers may not come back on-line when their general area is restored, indicating a more localized issue. Additionally, in order to safely complete repairs, there may be a requirement to temporarily turn off power to specific locations.

“Customers who are experiencing partial power are advised to turn ALL power off until the problem is resolved and should feel free to email us at info@belco.bm, which is being monitored.

“The entire BELCO Team recognizes how frustrating it can be to be without power and truly appreciate the support they are receiving from members of the public. We are committed to fully restoring power to the remaining customers as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Update 5.16pm: BELCO said that as of 4:45pm, 188 customers remain without power.

The full statement from BELCO is below:

As of 4:45PM, 188 customers remain without power, down from approximately 500 at 9:00AM. The following areas have been restored so far today:

  • Landmark
  • Benny Bay Road
  • Spring Hill
  • Cove Valley
  • Old Road
  • Hibiscus Lane
  • Cut Road
  • Chapel of Ease
  • Pain Lane
  • Boundary lane

If customers are located within any of the areas listed as restored, but remain without power, we ask them to call 955 as this indicates a more localized issue. Additionally, should anyone be experiencing “partial power”, we advise them to turn off their power immediately from the main source and to call 955 immediately.

Crews are now working on the more time consuming smaller pocket and single call areas, which will include, but are not limited to:

  • Rockland
  • Rose Hill
  • Mount Hill
  • Fairylands
  • Point Shares
  • Church Folly

Of the 188 remaining outages, 111 are contained within 12 specific restoration jobs. Crews are currently working at 7 of these 12 locations. The remaining outages are isolated, single outage incidents, which means each restoration job will address only a single outage.

Given that we are now at the point of addressing the more localized and isolated incidents, we encourage residents to please check on their elderly or ailing family members and friends to ensure their power has been restored and if not, to contact BELCO immediately.

As we have since Monday, crews will work into the night to continue restoration efforts and we are hopeful that the majority of current outages will be addressed before night’s end. We understand the frustration of those customers who remain without power and appreciate their ongoing patience. The entire BELCO team remains committed to completing restoration as soon as possible.

Additional updates will be provided this evening on BELCO’s Facebook page and via Twitter (@BELCOBERMUDA).

Update 11.05pm: As of 9.40pm, 46 customers remain without power.

BELCO’s full statement is below:

As of 9:40PM, 46 customers remain without power, down from approximately 188 at 5PM. It is anticipated additional customers will be brought online tonight before the crews are stood down at Midnight with full restoration completed tomorrow.
The remaining outages are isolated, single outage incidents, which means each restoration job will address only a single outage.

At this time, any customers who remain out of power or are experiencing partial power are asked to report into 955. Also, please check on elderly or ailing family members and friends to ensure their power has been restored and if not, contact BELCO immediately.

We can not underestimate our appreciation for the patience our customers have shown under these trying circumstances.‎ The ongoing positive support from residents has been greatly appreciated by our Team.

Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to commend all of our employees who have worked diligently and with passion to complete the restoration process so quickly.
