Exhibit To Feature Work Of Tricia Abbott Walters

October 23, 2015

Pembroke artist Tricia Abbott Walters, who transforms cigar boxes into mixed media clocks and scraps of fabric into toy rabbits with soulful eyes, is getting set to open a new exhibit, titled, “The Painted R-Abbott.”

The exhibit will be held at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard from October 25 through November 20.

Mrs. Walters has been pursuing her art full-time for four years; starting out in acrylics and watercolours, it wasn’t until her second exhibit in Hamilton that she discovered that she also has a passion for making toys.

“I had an exhibit of watercolour illustrations and wanted to compliment the paintings with toys,” she recalls. “But it was hard to find exactly what I was looking for so I made a few myself.”

With this latest exhibit, Mrs. Walters will be showcasing her work in making cigar box clocks featuring rabbits. Besides the clocks, Mrs. Waters also made close to a dozen stuffed bunnies, some ‘green’ canvas shopping bags featuring bunnies, paintings, and more.

“I wanted to showcase the clocks and toys more than painting anything. It’s been about two years since I last made the clocks and I’ve had so many requests since then that it felt like the time was right.”
