Tynes Bay “Steam Blow” To Start On Tuesday

October 26, 2015

The Ministry of Public Works said they would like to advise the public that a steam blow exercise at the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility is scheduled for tomorrow [October 27] and through the remainder of the week.

“The purpose of the exercise is to clean the new turbine piping of any foreign materials that may be left over from construction by blowing through a large volume of high pressure steam,” the Ministry said.

“The exercise will take place between the hours of 4:15 to 5:15 pm each day. Each exercise will last between five to 15 minutes and will produce a loud noise of rushing air and a white water vapour plume.

“Residents and members of the public within the general area should not be alarmed when these events occur. The public should expect short service interruptions at the Tynes Bay Public Drop Off and traffic delays on North Shore road as a result.

“This month’s exercise will conclude on Friday, 30 October. Next month the exercise will continue on Monday, 2 November to Friday, 6 November.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to thank the public for their cooperation while this critical work takes place.”
