Man Receives Suspended 10 Day Sentence

October 29, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Oct 29], 33-year-old Kevin Mendonca was given a ten day prison sentence, which was suspended for one year, following his guilty plea for intruding on the privacy of a female by grabbing her buttocks.

The incident occurred in May of this year.

The Crown Prosecutor recommended a “short, sharp shock” prison sentence, however, Mr Mendonca’s defence counsel told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that the assault was not sexual in nature.

Defence counsel also told the Magistrate that Mr Mendonca had readily admitted his action to police.

In handing down the suspended sentence, the Magistrate noted that Mr Mendonca was currently unemployed and therefore unable to pay a fine. The suspended sentence comes with a twelve month period of probation.
