Free Golf Lessons On Port Royal’s 45th Birthday

October 28, 2015

To commemorate their 45th “birthday,” the Golf Developmental Program ‎at Port Royal Golf Course will be offering free golf lessons for new golfers on Thursday [Oct 29] from 1pm to 6pm.

Golf pro Kim Swan said, “Happy Birthday to Port Royal Golf Course as this week marks 45 years since Port Royal Golf Course first opened its doors – on the 29th of October, 1970 His Excellency The Rt. Lord Martonmere Governor and Commander in Chief ‎did the honours and launched a sporting amenity that would assist immensely the marketing efforts of Bermuda.

‎”The vision that gave birth to conceptualize, design, construct and the more recent redevelopment of Port Royal Golf Course have proven the value of public golf locally and globally. Many will recall the conventions of IBM in the 1970′s, how they booked the course for weeks, to the more recent PGA Grand Slam of Golf which raised global awareness of golf in Bermuda.

Port-Royal

‎”Today amidst a competitive global tourism market Bermuda is well served with Port Royal as our flagship signature championship public golf course to compliment the other courses available on island. Port Royal provides a quality public golf product that we collectively must market to maximise the benefit of such a valuable asset.

“As we look forward, we cannot overlook the vision of those who came before us – Reginald Tucker, George Wardman, Hubert Smith, Eric Parker, Walter King and others in the early 1970′s made quality public ‎golf a priority and encouraged play from all sectors – Port Royal was the right course at the right time in history.

“In recent years the redevelopment of Port Royal to host the PGA Grand Slam of Golf has created an interest in Port Royal Golf Course well beyond our shores – Dr. Hon. Ewart Brown’s vision to re-develop Port Royal – has provided a buzz in the golf community by elevating the stature of our course and presenting the opportunity to take our golf marketing associated to golf to a new level.”

To commemorate this milestone, Port Royal Golf Developmental Program ‎will be offering free golf lessons for new golfers on Thursday, October 29th from 1pm to 6pm.

Kim Swan, the teaching golf professional at Port Royal Golf Course, will be on hand to introduce interested golfers to the game . For more information, please email Mr Swan at kimswangolf@gmail.com.

For all who’ve been a wee bit curious…”Kim Swan, the teaching golf professional at Port Royal Golf Course, will be on hand to introduce interested golfers to the game.”
Personally, I like Kim and do believe he needs to get on with doing positive things for them in St. George’s like getting on the O.B.A. team and possibly becoming the Pro. down there at the new hotel…
