$15,000 Donated To Three Local Charities
Marsh and Guy Carpenter are donating $5,000 to Pathways Bermuda, St. John Ambulance and Sunshine League, and thanked them for their tireless efforts in the community

Pathways Bermuda
Pathways Bermuda is dedicated to providing paths to recovery for individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by drug and alcohol addiction.
To this end, Pathways offers one-on-one outpatient counselling and aftercare, and through its strategic partnership with Caron Treatment Centers in the United States, facilitates access and scholarship funding to individuals in need of further care at residential facilities based in Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas.
The Marsh and Guy Carpenter donation is being used to financially assist individuals and families who could not otherwise afford these programmes.
“Since our inception in 2007, 81 people have received overseas treatment and more than 3,000 people have been served through our services and programmes,” said Gita Blakeney-Saltus, Executive Director of Pathways Bermuda.
“Unfortunately, many people cannot afford treatment and as a result, philanthropic funding is vital to ensure that individuals receive the help that they and their families desperately need.
“On behalf of Pathways and the families we serve, I thank Marsh and Guy Carpenter for their sustained support of our organisation and for helping people overcome addiction and improve their lives.”
St. John Ambulance
St. John Ambulance has been attending to the first aid needs of the Bermuda community since 1894, making it one of the first charities on the Island. The Marsh and Guy Carpenter donation is helping to fund needed repairs and maintenance to the organisation’s ambulances.
Currently, St. John Ambulance has four ambulances and one ambulance mobile clinic. Every year, more than 50 St. John Ambulance volunteers donate approximately 10,000 hours of their time by attending community events that may require their services.
“Our hardworking and trained volunteers give their time to ensure that the many events hosted in Bermuda are safe,” said Jeffrey Borges, Deputy Commissioner of St. John Ambulance.
“Our ambulances are in continuous use serving the community on a voluntary basis. This generous donation will assist with essential maintenance and repair, which can be very costly for our non-profit organisation.
“We are grateful to Marsh and Guy Carpenter for their donation to St. John Ambulance and will continue to work around the clock to help ensure our community receives emergency medical care as necessary.”
The Sunshine League
The Sunshine League, the Island’s first social service organisation committed to the development of Bermuda’s young people into healthy, productive and independent citizens.
In March of 2014, the Sunshine League launched Pathways to Independence, a transitional living programme for young men aged 18 to 25 years who are in the need of assistance in the areas of education, employment, residential stability and health care.
With the help of the Marsh and Guy Carpenter donation, the organisation is in the process of expanding this initiative to include a floating support programme that will be open to both girls and boys aged 16 to 18 years on a non-resident basis.
The donation also will help support a new Learning Centre scheduled to launch in January 2016 and dedicated to teaching young people the skills they need to become more independent in life.
“Thanks in part to the Marsh and Guy Carpenter donation, we are able to expand the reach of our programme to include young women and also boys,” said Annemarie E. Tobin, Director of the Sunshine League. “Our goal is to be a resource for kids coming of age in Bermuda and to help them successfully work, live and thrive on their own.”
