Sylvan Richards Responds To MP Walton Brown

October 8, 2015

Junior Minister of Home Affairs Sylvan Richards has responded to MP Walton Brown’s comments, saying that  if Mr Brown “wants a good example of a really contemptuous dismissal of an Ombudsman’s findings,” they suggest he read comments Opposition Leader Marc Bean made in the House of Assembly last year.

Mr Richards said, “Walton Brown has complained that Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy was contemptuous of the Ombudsman when he rejected some of her findings in a work permit case involving a Bermudian veterinarian some months ago. The One Bermuda Alliance rejects that suggestion.

“Minister Fahy had strong objections to the Ombudsman’s report, and he expressed them forcefully, as is his right. He gave perfectly sound reasons for his disagreement.

“If MP Walton Brown wants a good example of a really contemptuous dismissal of an Ombudsman’s findings, we suggest he read the Hansard report [PDF] of the House of Assembly proceedings of 17 March, 2014, starting at page 1700.

“There, the Leader of his Party, MP Marc Bean, is discussing an Ombudsman’s report that criticised him, as the then Minister of the Environment, for failing to live up to an international treaty to which Bermuda is a signatory, in allowing development of Tucker’s Point to go ahead.

“MP Marc Bean, on the floor of the House of Assembly, accused the Ombudsman of the day Arlene Brock of intellectual dishonesty and bias, getting her facts wrong and living in an ivory tower. The Ombudsman also complained publicly that she was put under a great deal of pressure by three unnamed ‘high level’ officials to drop her investigation of the Tucker’s Point development.

Haha ok so where is The Ombudsman Association and the International Ombudsman Institute on Marc Bean’s comments in the HOA? No where I bet.

Once again….the OBA has to correct the PLP.

    • Claudio says:

Shows the difference between the two Ombudsman. Furthermore it appears that the Ombudsman’s office is following an MO to run to international entities to speak their version of further to get a statement. Willing to a soil our country’s name for their own agenda.

    • Onion Juice says:

      Surrogate

  2. We thank you Sir!

    • kangoocar says:

Agreed Raymond, this sick and shallow nonsense from the plp really needs to stop!!! I am now convinced that even the plp is too stupid to realize that they them selves live in GLASS HOUSES??? This latest FARCE by the plp is beyond sick???? Min Fahy spoke the truth and we all know, nothing stings the plpers more than that!!!!

  3. Yeahisaidit says:

This guy always runs to defend Fahy … Sick and tired of it

  4. Unus sed Leo says:

    But looky here…
A man died and went to Heaven.
As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly gates he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him…he asked ,”What are all those clocks?”
St. Peter answered “Those are lie clocks…everyone on earth has a lie clock…every time you lie the hands on your clock will move.”
“Oh”,said the man…”whos’ clock is that?”
“That is mother Theresas’…the hands have never moved, indicating thatShe has never told a lie.
    “Incredible”,said the man
“That’s Abraham Lincolns clock ,the hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.”
    “Where’s Walton Browns’ clock?”
“His clock is in Jusus office…He’s using it as a ceiling fan!

    Betty? Chris famous? Any comments?

  6. Claudio says:

Manufactured outrage exposes hypocrisy. I would like Walton Brown and/or PLP supporters to respond to this – it would be interesting to hear their take on it.

    • Regina says:

Crickets! That’s all we ever hear when they get busted. Then they wait for their blind sheeple to forget about it. And sadly, they do.

  7. Anastacia Curling says:

Sylvan needs to check the report from the UK parliament that Backed Marc Bean’s statement, OBA schooled again

    • Onion Juice says:

They don’t listen to anybody, Deloitte Report, Scotland Yard, etc.

    • btchecker says:

What has that go to do with anything? Walton slams Fahy for disrespecting the ombudsman. hi own party leader said much worse – its the hypocrisy that is the issue.

Personally I think both Fahy and Bean were correct in their positions against the ombudsman. the point here is the PLP’s propaganda is getting very tiresome.

    • Regina says:

How about you support this with some fact and documentation?? You can’t just make crap up and expect people to believe you. Oh wait, yes you can, you’re the plp.

    • Anbu says:

      Nope

    • aceboy says:

Why don’t you post a link to it and we can show you how wrong you are…as usual.

  8. BDA Friend says:

    “Need we say more?”

Yes, say you’ll all resolve your differences, get to work and stop whining.

  9. Ed Case says:

Walton just lost even more credibility. Pathetic loser party is in its death throws. Nobody believes their lies anymore except onion juice ant yettby and they are both off their heads.

    • Onion Juice says:

Your one term party has a few years to redeem themselves and it doesn’t look promising.

      • jt says:

The cost of your redemption would sink our island because they’d have to govern like the PLP did and would if re-elected.

  10. Coffee says:

Well I guess Mark Bean just didn’t work hard enough to make Tucker’s Point a viable business venture for foreign inward investment and tourism . He should have listened to Ms.Brock .

  11. Susan Rattery says:

Funny How OBA supporters flip flop with their support of the Ombudsman when the office is critical of their party. Very telling to say the least

    • jt says:

The issues are not with the office in general but with this particular case. And a valid case for disagreement was clearly laid out by Fahy. Did Bean do the same or just fling doo doo?

At least nobody got dragged to the pokey like the former Auditor General.

  12. Flooding says:

Fahy’s Arogance is being supported by Sylvan’s Stupidity

    • Earth watch police says:

Walton’s lack of intelligence is being confirmed by what comes out of his mouth.

  13. AS YOU ARE says:

Are they still deceiving people, gingus bie.

  14. watching says:

Whether Marc Bean was right or wrong, is irrelevant to the fact that Fahy and Dunkley are wrong in this instance. Right is right and wrong is wrong.

    • Zevon says:

Hilarious. Typical ‘do as I say, not as I do’.
Of course it’s not irrelevant. The PLP treat us all like morons with short memories.

  15. clearasmud says:

I dont understand why Sylvan felt the need to enter this didpute because all he did was confirm that Fahy is just as bad as Bean LOL! I am not sure how that helps Fahy? Given the Governor’s comment on the need to respect the office of the ombudsman all Sylvan has done is shown that he is a blind follower!

  16. Balanced Facts says:

The PLP kool aiders accept hypocrisy as part and parcel of their make up, and they do it with complete impunity!
And of course, its BEAN, again! We know you love throwing out the Bible quotes to the sheep…must be difficult walking around with a “log” in your eye all the time!

  17. huh says:

Alaska Hall did not like this rebuttal one bit. The puppets are out in force.

  18. JustAskin2 says:

PLP complains about OBA, OBA whines to PLP “Well you did it too!”

    SMH… Kids in kindergarten.

    • huh says:

More like the former Premier issues a member to the PLP and Unions about a waging a war or misinformation and lies to bring down the current democratically elected Government which he reiterates Publically in a Labour Day speech. The lies and misinformation continued on a daily sometimes hourly basis to which the Government of the day defends itself and when needed, corrects the lies and misstatements. Have I missed anything?

  19. Alvin Williams says:

Two wrongs do not make a right; this is a shadow attempt of one OBA politician attempting to cover the behind of another and as such the people can see right through it.

    • Unbelievable says:

      Wrong again, Alvin.

Why don’t you also get some spelling and grammar lessons too.

  20. K..C says:

    To huh:

Please let me know which Premier told the Unions about “waging a war or misinformation or lies”. If you are referring to Dr. Brown’s Labour Day Speech 2014, I was present and he called for the removal of the present Government. He compared the difference in media reporting pre and post December 2012. What is ironic in your comments is that members of OBA had deceitfully obtained funds for a secret campaign of spreading information through surrogates. They have continued to spread misinformation and the example of that are your comments about that speech.
