Minister Crockwell’s Trip To London Cost $6,980

A trip in September 2015 by Minister Shawn Crockwell to the London, UK  to attend the London International Shipping 2015 Convention cost $6,980.75, according to a recent listing on the Government’s travel webpage.

The trip duration was listed as from Saturday, September 05, 2015 – Friday, September 11, 2015, and the web page listing said, “The Hon. Shawn G. Crockwell, JP MP, Minister of Tourism Development and Transport travelled to London, UK along with Permanent Secretary Francis Richardson and Capt. Gamaralage Nawaratne, Director of Maritime Administration to attend the annual London International Shipping Week 2015 Convention [LISW].

“LISW15 Conference attracted the very highest level government and shipping leaders from the UK and around the world and provided over 80 industry functions and unique networking opportunities for leaders across all sectors of the international shipping industry including owners, ship managers, regulators, bankers, lawyers and many more.

“Bermuda had a primary role in organizing and hosting the Red Ensign Group reception that was held on the evening of September 9th, 2015. The reception was well attended by industry representative and Robert Goodwill MP, Minister for Shipping & Ports provided brief remarks for the invited guest.

“Bermuda was also well represented by local stakeholders including Conyers Dill & Pearman, MJM Limited and Bermuda Business Development Agency.”

    I, (as many already know)am also a “diehard” supporter of our Government the One Bermuda Alliance yet the following is a rather large lump to swallow :-(

    Why can’t / don’t our Govt. Ministers fly economy class or anything less then first class? The front end of an airplane arrives the same time / place as the rear. :-(

      Because he is a politician, that’s why. My opinion is that he and all other government officials should travel first class. They are representing the country after all. They are not everyday individuals like ourselves. We people of Bermuda have to stop this way of thinking. The, “he is no different than me so why should he be in first class?” Well, he is one of the countries leaders and as such he should be afforded luxuries that the average citizen can not have.
      And so you know, I am a “diehard” PLP supporter, but my opinion on government officials (no matter which party is in charge) is the same when it comes to traveling.
