Public Schools To Close For Teacher Training

November 6, 2015

The Department of Education today [Nov 6] reminded parents of the Tuesday, November 10th closure of all public schools, providing for an “important professional training day for Bermuda’s teachers.”

“The Danielson Framework for Effective Teaching is the system definition for high quality instruction for all students, at every level in all classrooms,” a spokesperson said.

“The training will be conducted by local educators and represents an ongoing collaborative effort between the Department of Education and the Bermuda Union of Teachers.

“The Danielson Framework will form the basis of professional development, coaching and system support to improve instruction. It will provide systemic training around the Danielson Framework for Effective Teaching for 100% of schools by December 2015.

“Nineteen teachers/leaders will conduct the training across six school centers in the west, central and eastern zones. Schools will be closed on Tuesday November 10th and on the Wednesday November 11th Remembrance Day Holiday.

“Students return to school on Thursday November 12th.”

can I ask why this wasn’t done during mid term break. Just asking

    • Cynical says:

My thoughts exactly. I just can not understand how the Ministry of Education can just casually expect parents to make alternate arrangements for their children on a whim. Most of us have to work. There needs to be better strategical planning and coordination for term breaks and teacher training. Some of us have to pay sitters and camps to keep our children in during these breaks. Further, we already have enough breaks in the school year already.

So how many teachers are there in Bermuda.
    We have “Nineteen teachers/leaders”.

    Wow.
Wonder what the rest do when they walk through those doors.

Would that day not be better used as a make up day for time lost due to the storm?

  8. Sparky says:

An 81 page document easily down loaded takes a “teacher” a whole school day to read ? Something very strange. Do our public school teachers have a diploma or a degree?

  9. Not so Safe says:

“The Danielson Framework for Effective Teaching is the system definition for high quality instruction for all students, at every level in all classrooms,” – the high quality instruction is to have students in school learning – not out on “Teacher training days”. We Didn’t have these types of days during my school years and we all turned out very well !
