Mrs. Wheatley-King said, “I have a real passion for freehand intricate zentangle inspired doodles. I doodle on books, shoes, canvases, stools, wine bottles, lamp shades, the opportunities are endless. It started as a hobby and blossomed into a full time career.

“I have my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology and my work experience is in investments/hedge funds and non-profit organization work. As far as art, I only have my art GSCE from Saltus so I truly believe this art career has been divine intervention.”

“I started to doodle evenings to relieve work stress and would share on social media. To my surprise the response was favorable and I started accepting commission work. It became too much trying to juggle my son, a full time career and the art evenings so I took the huge leap of faith and left my full time job to pursue what I love.

“I told myself I would have a solo show before the end of my first year fully devoted to art and ‘Inner Child’ is that vision.”

“I want my art to send out positive ‘feel good’ vibrations and to have a Velina feel so without seeing my signature you recognize my style of work. When old work acquaintances see me at vendor events now completely content and relaxed they are shocked because I used to be so stressed out, I was literally losing my hair.

“I have come a long way in a short span of time and I want to encourage others to tap in to their creative side; everyone has a God-given talent. I thank God everyday for my steady hand and photographic memory. I challenge people to ask themselves how they can connect with their inner child – for me it is through art.”

“My favorite median starting out was Sharpie markers; now I’ve moved onto oil based markers, high flow acrylic pens and watercolor pencils. This will be a mixed media show and there will be all sorts of fun, bright colors and patterns to view- jelly fishes, Gombeys, hibiscuses, suns, mandalas, banana trees, butterflies and dandelions to name a few.

“Outside of the show, my work is sold out of the lovely new boutique, Salt Spray Co. in St. George’s on Water Street.”
