Court: 30-Year-Old Man Fined For Dog Offences

January 20, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 20], a 30-year-old Southampton resident was fined $1000 after pleading guilty to keeping two pitbulls without a licence.

Mr Dion Smith pleaded guilty to keeping a male and a female pitbull at his residence between a date unknown and 23rd May 2015, and doing so without a licence.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $500 for each offence.

The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that on 23rd May 2015, neighbours had called the Dog Warden because two pitbulls were wandering in the neighbourhood and their behaviour was causing fear amongst the neighbours.

When the Dog Warden arrived to deal with them, both dogs charged, and the Warden caught one dog, but the other got away.

Police were called in and the second dog was found and captured.
