Photos: Post Holiday Dinner Held In St George’s

January 3, 2016

The St George’s Parish Council in conjunction with the Police Eastern Community Action Team and Kenny’s Kitchen hosted a community Post-Christmas dinner at the Open Door Christian Assembly Church Hall this afternoon [Jan 3]. This is the third consecutive year that this event has been held in the St George’s Community.

Police Constable Terry-Lynn Paynter of the Eastern Community Action Team said, “We chose this location because it’s right in between the two low income emergency housing units for Government. We cater to them just to give them a little cheer to start the new year, so that they know people do care about them.

“This is our third annual community dinner in conjunction with the St. George’s Council. It was spearheaded the first time by myself and Senator Renee Ming, who was on the Council at the time and was going to give out hampers.

“We decided, maybe we could feed a little bit more if we had a dinner, so the Council got on board and since which they have donated the food and Kenny’s Kitchen gladly cooks the food free for us, and we serve the needy people as well as seniors in the community. Some are unable to get to our location, so they call and we do deliver or provide transportation.

“The first year we catered for 200 and we got probably a hundred and fifty. The second year we catered to 200 again, we got two hundred and twenty. This year we catered to about two hundred and fifty and we started at 4.00pm.

“It’s now 4.30pm and we are already close to a hundred and fifty people served, so it seems to be going getting a bit more popular and we’re glad to help the people in the community that need a little helping hand.”
