Swan, Ming Offer Condolences To Roberts Family

March 29, 2016

Senator Renee Ming and former St George’s MP Kim Swan both offered their condolences to the family of former St. George’s Mayor Norman Roberts, who recently passed away.

Senator Renee Ming said, “On behalf of the Progressive Labour Party, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Norman Roberts OBE, former Mayor of the Towne of St. George’s.

“Mr. Roberts was a man committed to his community of St George’s. This was evident as he spent almost 21 years of service as Mayor. His service to the community also extended to serving in the Senate for 9 years at the conclusion of his period of service as Mayor of St. George’s.

“Condolences are sent to his surviving wife of 67 years, Margaret, and his family and friends. May the memories comfort you all through this challenging time.”

Mr. Kim Swan said, “I have known Mayor Roberts and his family for 35 years. Mayor Roberts prided himself on being an advocate for St. George – as a former Independent member of the legislative council [now Senate] he put the concerns of St. George at the forefront.

“He always encouraged me to fight hard for the issues of St. Georges [when I served in the legislature] for that I am eternally grateful. We shared a love for sail boat racing – he had many stories to share – as Mayor Norman Roberts’ name was synonymous with Fitted Dinghy racing in Bermuda.”
