Cruise Ship Diverts To Disembark Sick Passenger

The Bermuda registered cruise ship, Royal Princess made an unexpected stop in Bermuda on Sunday [April 24] in order to disembark a passenger who had suffered a suspected heart attack.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday 23rd April, 5:32pm. Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre receives a call from local ship agent ‘Meyers’ who report that the 142,714 GRT, Bermudian registered cruise ship, Royal Princess, is inbound to Bermuda to disembark a passenger who has suffered a suspected heart attack.

“M/V Royal Princess, previously on passage from Port Everglades, USA to Funchal, Portugal, diverts at best speed with intended arrival early Sunday afternoon. Ongoing liaison continues between ship’s doctor and emergency room at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with plan to transfer patient overseas on Sunday evening.

“At 3pm Sunday 24th April, M/V Royal Princess arrives at the pilot station where casualty is taken ashore by pilot boat ‘St. David’, accompanied by ships medical team, who liaise with Emergency Medical Services at Ordnance Island. The patient is successfully landed ashore and taken by ambulance to KEMH, while vessel continues on its voyage to Funchal, Portugal.”
