Dr. Josh Hjartarson To Speak At Chamber Lunch

JHjartarsonThe Bermuda Chamber of Commerce announced this year’s Annual General Meeting keynote speaker, Josh Hjartarson Ph.D., Vice President, Public Sector KPMG.

Dr. Hjartarson will be in Bermuda to attend the AGM Luncheon to be held at the Hamilton Princess in the Harbouview Ballroom on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Dr. Josh Hjartarson will speak on the subject of how the public sector is being transformed around the world by the converging forces of public demand for service quality and fiscal constraints.

Dr. Hjartarson joined KPMG from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, where he was Vice President, Policy & Government Relations. He was also Policy Director at the Mowat Centre, where he helped build one of Canada’s most prolific and respected think tanks.He has emerged as one of Canada’s foremost thought leaders on the pressing policy challenges facing Canada and Ontario.

He has led substantive policy efforts such as:

  • Ontario Commissioning Academy, where he developed and delivered an innovative education programme for senior Ontario Public Service executives on new service delivery models and value-for-money based commissioning;
  • Mowat Centre Employment Insurance Task Force, where he provided overall policy direction and developed recommendations for the overhaul of the national income security system to improve efficacy and outcomes; and
  • Shifting Gears Series on Public Sector Reform, where he led the first iterations of a lauded global survey of public service delivery reform efforts and their applicability to Canada and Ontario.

While at the Mowat Centre, Dr. Hjartarson co-authored the seminal Integrating Human Services in an Age of Fiscal Restraint: A Shifting Gears Report, based on the Peel Region case and widely referenced globally.

Dr. Hjartarson received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 2005. He has written and lectured extensively on Ontario politics and government, public sector transformation, and regulatory reform.
