The Bermuda National Athletics Association announced that 88 athletes are set to compete in the inaugural Invitational Permit Meet.

Donna Raynor, B.N.A.A. President, revealed that Olympic and world class athletes from Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, USA, Jamaica, Canada, Puerto Rico and Nigeria have signed up to participate. “They are all top quality athletes,” she said.

Organizers promise “a spectacular track and field event” on April 22 and note that a partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority is transforming the island into “a destination of choice” for sports tourism.

National Coach Troy Douglas explained how he helped lure top athletes to the island, drawing on his 20 years’ experience as an athlete and coach: “I called in a lot of favours”.

Note: Bernews is temporarily helping Bermuda Broadcasting Company by sharing its stories online. The station’s TV equipment is undergoing repair after being hit by lightning.
