Earth Day: “Make Our Island More Sustainable’

April 22, 2016

“On this Earth Day I encourage each of us to reflect on what we can do to make our Island more sustainable,” Shadow Environment Minister Dennis Lister said today.

Mr Lister said, “The Progressive Labour Party would like to join the many countries around the world that acknowledge today 22nd of April as “Earth Day” ‎.

“This year’s theme ‘Trees for the Earth’ should encourage us all to reflect on the value of trees and natural open space as we try to balance the need to develop and preserve nature.

“Trees play an integral role in our ecosystem and environment, whether it be fruit trees to provide food, providing shade and carbon sequestration, and in encouraging rainfall and biodiversity, among other benefits.

“On this Earth Day I encourage each of us to reflect on what we can do to make our Island more sustainable. Let us not forget that what we do now will protect Bermuda’s natural beauty for tomorrow’s generation.

“We should all do our part to preserve and protect our environment not just today but every day. So plant a tree, take time to enjoy our island’s natural wonders, recycle and reuse. Let’s aim for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Bermuda.”
