“Ageing In Bermuda” Forum To Be Held May 20

May 18, 2016

The Peace and Social Justice Committee of the Roman Catholic Church of Bermuda will be hosting its fourth forum in a series on “Ageing in Bermuda” on Friday, May 20 at St. Theresa’s Church Hall on Laffan Street.

The forum will get underway at 7.30pm, with the public invited to attend; refreshments will be served.

A spokesperson said, “One never really knows, with declining mental and physical health of ageing, if an eldercare arrangement or some rest home facility will become a need for them. This is the topic explored in the 4th in the series of Ageing in Bermuda forums.

“In fact, this was the first topic on ageing that spurred the Ageing in Bermuda forums hosted by the Roman Catholic Church of Bermuda.

“We are not getting any younger in Bermuda and some of us will invariably end up in rest homes!” one committee member said.”

“While registered nurse, Mary Jo Farrow will speak about items we need to consider having in the home as we age and architect Colin Campbell of OBMI, will discuss how to restructure our home to meet the needs of ageing.

“Each presenter has 10 minutes to discuss the question, followed by a Q & A from the audience and a group think tank where the audience is able to offer comments and suggestions.

“The Peace and Social Justice Committee has conducted three forums prior to this one: one on Ageing and Employment, Ageing and Health and Ageing and Legal issues. The fifth and last forum in the series will be on Ageing and End of Life, slated for June.”
