    Aw. Somebody wasn’t paying attention.

Another one! First, I pray all that were involved are ok and are not in any serious condition. These “accidents” seem to be daily…there needs to be more caution taken when driving / riding :-(

Is the road to narrow there??

  4. mmm says:

With over 20 thousand vehicles in use daily on our roads, there is a strong possibility of collisions. Our Road Safety Council and Police Service will make their appeal as we near the May 24th, holiday, unless something drastic happens before then. Cup Match and Christmas will also feature dire warnings for drunken driving and arrests for un-ruly behaviour. There needs to be a stronger presence of uniformed police in our community now. Sell off some of those GP cars, put more government departments in government owned properties and thus funds can be put toward the police service.

why don’t we get back some of that Sands 360 missing payments too!

The more vehicles on the road the percentage of accidents will increase. There’s no getting around it. Just be very aware of the other person coming towards you because the yellow line will not protect you.

  6. Lone Wolf says:

What we need is for people to stay on their own side of the road. It is no-one else’s fault but the drivers.

Conduct your own experiment. Go and hang out for just half an hour in ANY area in Bermuda at ANY time of day or night (whether it is a corner or a long, straight stretch of road doesn’t make a difference) and count how many vehicles are over the center line by more than a whole tire’s width. Just count them.

I have to swerve out of the way (in my own lane) for just about every single vehicle I pass because nobody knows that the center line is to divide the opposing lanes. For some reason everyone in Bermuda seems to think the center line is there to be centered under their vehicle.

Then of course I have to swerve right back over to avoid the walkers and runners who don’t know what a sidewalk is for. NEWS FLASH! The sidewalk is for YOU to WALK ON people. It’s not there to guide you around the bends!

We can park a police car or put beat officers all over this Island and the collisions will still continue. It will not stop until people learn how to drive. And at this stage, I have not seen ANY evidence of people knowing how to drive here. None.

It would also be helpful if motorists would pull their vehicles OFF THE ROAD when visiting with their cousin or awaiting a mate. Not a day goes by when I don’t see someone who has decided that North Shore Road is a good place to park, with a FTW attitude towards the other drivers trying to get by. It’s a ROAD not a car park.

Set the speed limit on all cars sold to a 20mph limit…….only emergency vehicles need to go faster than 20….police, fire and ambulances.
Go back to one vehicle per household. If you are the cause of an accident, then NO CAR for a year. This will cause lots of inconveniences, however, the Bus system and the Ferry system may gain a few extra dollars.
With the America’s cup next summer, I hate to think of the traffic jams and the possible accidents with all that extra vehicles on the road.
Think it through and get the laws in place NOW.
More ferry boats is the answer I think, every 30 mins, non stop all day and evening long could really help. The water ways would truly help.
