Court: Prisoner Pleads Guilty To Wounding

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [June 23], a 30-year-old convicted sex offender pleaded guilty to using a pen to stab another prisoner in the eye.

Merrick Seaman pleaded guilty to being in an Increased Penalty Zone – namely Westgate Correctional Facility – and unlawfully wounding a fellow prison inmate.

The Chief Magistrate was told that on 15th July 2015, Seaman was in a Westgate recreation room with another inmate who, at the time, was reading and watching TV.

The Crown Prosecutor said that Seaman — who is is currently serving an eight year sentence – used a pen to stab the man in the eye.

Questioned by the Magistrate, the Crown Prosecutor said that the victim had scars but had not lost his vision.

The Duty Counsel recommended Psychiatric and Psychological reports. The Magistrate ordered the two reports and set sentencing on this matter for August.
