Upon receipt of her award, Ms Smith commented: “I am going into my second year of my undergraduate career at the University of Leicester, studying Mathematics and Actuarial Science. This accredited degree will exempt me from eight out of the fifteen exams to become a qualified actuary.

“I must set an example for my siblings, proving to them that hard work and dedication to my studies can and has exposed me to great opportunities, such as being selected as the 2016 Deloitte Scholarship Recipient. This award has lightened my financial burden tremendously, which now allows me to focus on the more important aspect of university, learning.

“I view this scholarship as a blessing because not only does it allow me to develop my education, it also gives me the opportunity to gain further knowledge and experience in the industry from a Big 4 company. I cannot express in words what this opportunity means to me and my support system, so I shall prove it to you through my studies and work ethic both at university and at Deloitte”.

She is simultaneously involved in community activites such as the university’s Street Dance Society, tutors Math at CGSE level and is heavily involved in various sports, particularly netball and basketball. She gained vast experience with the Women’s Bermuda League and has gone on to captain both the netball and basketball teams at Dudley College.

Additional community involvement includes participation in the annual Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Children’s Book Fair, netball and basketball coaching, academic mentoring and various charity walks.

Nicole Valadao, Partner of Enterprise Risk Services [ERS] stated: “Our focus as a firm is to make an impact that matters – Sinae has clearly demonstrated her ability to make an impact that matters in her community and through her studies. We applaud her achievements and wish her continued success as she pursues her dreams”.

Deloitte Ltd. said they are “committed to the development of outstanding Bermudians, providing undergraduate students in Accounting, Actuarial and other Business studies with funding for overseas education.
