St Peter’s To Celebrate Queen’s 90th Birthday

June 4, 2016

St Peter’s Church in St George’s — given the title ‘Their Majesties Chappell’ by Her Majesty for its 400th Anniversary in 2012 — will be holding a special service of thanksgiving on Sunday, the 12th of June at 11:00 a.m., to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

A Church spokesperson said, “All are invited but attendees should arrive by 10:45 a.m. – or even earlier to be sure of a good seat! The Bishop of Bermuda, the Rt Rev’d Nicholas Dill will be preaching.

“Also participating will be His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda, Mr George Fergusson and Mrs Fergusson, the Premier of Bermuda, the Honourable Michael Dunkley and Mrs Dunkley, and the Mayor of St George, the Worshipful Quinell Francis.

“Their Majesties Choristers, the children’s choir of St Peter’s, will be singing with their usual joyful enthusiasm at this special service, their final performance before the summer break.”

“A video will be made at the service and excerpts will be sent to Her Majesty with our birthday greetings: after the service all those in attendance will join in singing “Happy Birthday” on the steps of the church, and they’ll also sign a card that will be sent with the video.

“A free copy of the birthday book “The Servant Queen” will be available for all attending the service. A reception in the Edith Clair Spencer Hall will follow the service.”

Canon David Raths, the incumbent of St Peter’s, said: “Birthday parties are always a happy time and we hope that people will take this opportunity to join in sending a birthday greeting to the Queen. She has sent birthday cards to so many Bermudians on their 90th birthday. It’s our turn to wish her well as she turns 90.”
