Football: Nahki Wells Scores In Friendly Match
Bermuda’s Nahki Wells scored for Huddersfield Town as they defeated Accrington Stanley 4-1 in a friendly match.
“The Terriers defeated Sky Bet League 2 side Accrington Stanley in a behind-closed-doors friendly at PPG Canalside on Sunday afternoon,” the club’s match report said.
“As per the pre-season opener at Guiseley in the week, the players got 45 minutes apiece as David Wagner played two different elevens in each half – as did the visitors.
“There were plenty of positives for Town’s Head Coach; his side won 4-1, Mooy was impressive on debut, new boys Elias Kachunga and Jack Payne got their first goals for the Club and everyone came out of the game unscathed.
“Kachunga opened the scoring inside five minutes after a very bright start for the hosts, latching onto Sean Scannell’s low pass into the right edge of the penalty area and whipping a shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.
“Kyle Dempsey, playing as a number 10, had Town’s best chances of the half saved twice while the visitors hit the outside of the post before the interval.
“Town’s dynamic second half side was too strong for Accrington’s second XI and could have had more than the three goals that followed.
“Jack Payne hit the post from Mooy’s 54th minute through pass before Player of the Year Nahki Wells did double the advantage, beating the ‘keeper after being put through on goal by Harry Bunn.
“It was 3-0 with 20 minutes left after Mooy found Wells on the edge of the box with an excellent reverse pass. The Bermudian’s touch set the ball perfectly into Payne’s path and he took one touch to take the ball into the penalty area before firing between the ‘keeper and the near post with his weaker right foot.
“The fourth goal followed just three minutes later and came down the right side. Smith released Bunn into space with a fantastic pass down the line and Harry’s cross was perfect for van La Parra to sweep home from close range.”
