The American Society of Bermuda hosted their 2016 American Independence Day Celebration on Saturday evening [July 2] at Morseby Plains at the old Ireland Rangers field, with gates opening to the public at 6.00pm.

The event saw U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig read President Obama’s remarks, along with food, drinks, snacks, and fireworks. The Island Restaurant Group menu included such items as hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni & cheese, fresh corn on the cob and more.

DJ Craig ‘Bubbles’ Darrell entertained the crowd throughout the evening with music and music videos, bringing a crowd of children and adults to the front, dancing to the selections.

The group’s website says, “In 1961, believing that it would be beneficial for United States citizens in Bermuda to get together from time to time, The American Society was organized by the late Col. F. Van Wyck Mason and a small group with the encouragement of the American Consulate.”

Membership to the American Society of Bermuda is available with their website saying, “If you are American, married to an American, parent of an American or just even know and love an American, then the American Society of Bermuda is for you.

“We are a great group of diverse people and we welcome you to come and find out. We hope that you will become a member and join us in our wonderful functions held throughout the year.”
