Could You Be ‘Bermuda’s Rising Chef Of Year’?

August 9, 2016

Do you have what it takes to win the title of ‘Bermuda’s Rising Chef of the Year’? The Bermuda Hospitality Institute [BHI] is calling all rising professional chefs, 18 years of age or older, to showcase their talent.

Twelve Chefs will be selected to compete in the 5th Annual Rising Chef of the Year Competition & Fundraiser, being held over five nights from October 13 – October 21, at the International Imports [The Chef’s Shop].

“This annual sell-out event has been created to promote the passion, creativity and dedication of Bermuda’s culinary professionals, and to raise funds for BHI’s educational programs which highlight the Hospitality Industry,” said Malika Cartwright, BHI Executive Director.

“This is a great platform for Chefs who are on their way up to display their skills to a welcoming audience while honing their presentation skills.”

The competition consists of four semi-final rounds with three competitors each night, leading to one final round of four competitors.

Dishes will be judged based on taste, presentation, originality in the use of ingredients and work ethic by a panel of ‘celebrity’ judges. The top chef will win the title of ‘Bermuda’s Rising Chef of the Year’.

To enter, a person must be a professional chef, defined as someone who is paid or has been paid to cook or bake, or is currently enrolled as a culinary student or has obtained a culinary degree. Those who have held a Supervisory position in a kitchen are not eligible.

“We’re excited that our generous sponsors Gosling Brothers, Butterfield & Vallis, Lindo’s Family Foods, and host International Imports are on-board once again,” said Mrs. Cartwright.

The entry deadline is August 24th, with details available at BHI.bm, or by calling 295-5049. Tickets go on sale in October.

Founded on 1 April 2010, the Bermuda Hospitality Institute is a non-profit membership organization which serves to lead and encourage the development, growth and sustainability of Bermudians in the hospitality industry. For more information, visit BHI.bm.
