Beach Games: Companies Compete For Charity

The Centre on Philanthropy hosted its eighth annual ‘Give Back Games’ beach-style Olympics at Horseshoe Bay on Tuesday, with eleven companies competing to raise money for 11 of their chosen local charities.

It was a fun-filled day of team building for the companies who competed in games such as Flipper and Shark Relays, Blindfolded Water Relay, a Sand Sculpting Competition and other  fun games aimed at testing the competitors’ athleticism.

Tokio Millennium Re Ltd. won the day and $10,000 for their charity, Raleigh International Bermuda, as they swept to the finish gaining the best scores over some eleven games.

Chubb won the Give Back Games Facebook Challenge, winning an extra 5 points towards their final score for the day and also an additional $500 for their charity, Friends of Hospice.

At the end of the event, over $62,000 was shared between the teams for their charities: 2nd place saw Appleby win $8,500 for Meals on Wheels Bermuda and 3rd place for $7,000 was won by Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc. Bermuda on behalf of Youth Net. All other companies were able to contribute $4,500 each to their chosen charities.

  • Argo Group – Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies
  • Axis Specialty Ltd. – The Eliza DoLittle Society
  • Chubb – Friends of Hospice
  • Guy Carpenter – Youth Net
  • Hamilton Re – SCARS
  • Tokio Millennium Re Ltd. – Raleigh Bermuda
  • Validus – Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • XL Catlin – Adult Education School
  • Zurich – The Coalition for Protection of Children

Elaine Butterfield, Executive Director described the day’s fun, ‘We were all winners today, especially the non-profits of Bermuda and the community of needs that they serve.

“The games are an excellent opportunity to give our charities a little ‘bolster’ and to show how much we appreciate all that they do to make Bermuda a better place. Thank you to all of the corporate teams for your hard work today and leading up to the event. Thank you for caring enough to do it!
