September 13, 2016

The Bermuda network of the Alternative Investment Management Association [AIMA] will be hosting “Breakfast Bites,” the first in a series of education seminars, on Friday, September 16 at the Hamilton Princess, starting at 8.00am.

In making the announcement, Chairman of the AIMA Bermuda’s Executive Committee Craig Bridgewater said, “One of the primary aims of the local AIMA network is to keep members and the Bermuda asset management industry as a whole informed on key issues affecting the sector.

“With this in mind, Breakfast Bites is the first in a series of educational initiatives planned over the coming months.”

A spokesperson said, “Sponsored by EY and Taylors in association with Walkers, AIMA Bermuda’s Breakfast Bites will focus on three hot industry topics: Brexit and its impact on the sector, the implementation of the OECD’s Common Reporting Standards [CRS] for the automatic exchange of financial account information in tax matters, and essential considerations regarding the Corporate Services Provider [CSP] business licensing process.

“The latter being particularly timely given applications to obtain a licence to carry on CSP business are due by October 1, 2016.”

Ben Wright, Chair of AIMA Bermuda’s Education & Research Sub-Committee, said, “The event will be opened by Jessel Mendes, EY Partner, and the Bermuda Business Development Agency [BDA] Asset Management Working Group’s Board representative. Ariane West, Partner, Taylors will then lead off the morning’s discussion with an update on Brexit.

“Craig Russell, Executive Director, EY will provide insight on the implementation of CRS in 2017. Tamara Anfossi, Assistant Director, Bermuda Monetary Authority will round out the hour long session, by leading a BMA overview on certain practicalities surrounding the CSP licensing regime.”

AIMA Bermuda’s Legal & Regulatory Sub-Committee Chair Katharine Summerley said, “Over 70 asset management industry professionals have already signed up for this event, indicating the tremendous interest the industry has in keeping informed on key issues and generally networking with peers.”

Registration for the event closes at the end of the day on Tuesday, September 13. Anyone interested in attending this free event should contact Jude Lait at judelait@kpmg.bm.
