Cycling: Digicel Two-Up Time Trial Results

Junior cyclists Matthew Oliviera and Kaden Hopkins have been a force to be reckoned with, as combined in the Digicel two-up time trial on Sunday they proved to be unstoppable, beating out 42 other teams in the race against the clock in a time of 35.15.032.

With teams setting off at one minute intervals starting on North Shore Road near to Admiralty Park, heading east to Swizzle Inn roundabout and returning to the start/finish line, the two Team Winners Edge youngsters worked tirelessly together setting a blistering pace with the second place team of top local rider Dominique Mayho and Madison Team-mate Kwame Curling a full minute behind in 36.16.594. Veteran Mark Hatherley put all his experience to good use guiding Winners Edge team-mate Adam Kirk. in his first season of road racing into third in a time of 37.39.256.

The top women’s pair were Rose-Anna Hoey and April Joyce of Team Madison who recorded a time of 41.09.726 good enough for 16th overall with Ashley Estwanik and Alison Petty-Schindel second in 42.17.570. Rounding out the top three were Winners Edge riders Karen Smith and Zonique Williams in 42.34.052.

It was a close battle in the mixed category with only a second separating the top two teams and it was Winners Edge pair Glenn Franklin and Penelope Butterfield who edged out Madison pair of Sarah Bonnet and Brian Drea in 41.53.298 and 41.54.355 respectively.

With Hopkins and Oliviera taking overall honors the second placed Junior Team of Ben Edwards and Timmy Marshall recorded a time of 44.21.627 with Nick Pilgrim and Caleb Ingham next in 44.34.148
