October 1, 2016

This October, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, are “In It to End It’ as they reach the 20th Anniversary of the BF&M Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Under the patronage of Mrs. Pamela Dunkley, their campaign this October is to educate the community and raise awareness of the importance of screening and early detection in the hope of reducing the severity of breast cancer in Bermuda.

“This year being the 20th Anniversary of the BF&M Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, we will celebrate the progress that has been achieved in saving lives and increasing survivorship as result of 20 years of raising awareness and promoting early breast cancer detection through effective screening programmes”. says Tara Curtis, Executive Director at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

“Today, many more women are surviving breast cancer because it has been detected and treated early through the use of digital mammography.

“By mid-2017, improved cancer treatment will be available at a new Radiation Therapy facility, which is being designed and constructed in conjunction with the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Centre, ranked 4th in the USA”

This year, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will host a number of events and initiatives and are urging the community to get involved.

Whether you are a breast cancer survivor, a family member or a friend of someone impacted, you can get involved by creating your own event or participating in one of the many events taking place throughout the month of October.

These initiatives are to raise funds and provide women and their families with valuable information about breast health and breast cancer.

This October a wealth of opportunities are available for our community to help Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre reach the goal of raising $250,000. Funds raised will support our Centre’s Equal Access Fund and the new Radiation Therapy facility.
