Photos: St David’s Football Team Clear Roadside

October 15, 2016

Members of the St. David’s football team were seen today [Oct 15] clearing brush and vegetation away from the roadside of St. David’s Main Road.

The group wanted to make a contribution to their community and collectively agreed to take on the task. Coach Otis ‘OJ’ Minors led the way and said that the team’s actions had been welcomed by passing motorists, some of which shouted greetings and thanks while others dropped off pizza, cookies and refreshments.

The team, who are due to play a game tomorrow, plan to return to continue their efforts to clean-up and beautify the community’s main access road.

Motorists travelling through St David’s in recent times would be aware that the roadside vegetation has progressively grown into the street forcing traffic to drive close to or over the centre line in some areas.

At least they did it because the government ain’t done it in 7 months. The roadside trees are terrible. It’s only a matter of time that it’s gonna be an accident. Vote for change

    • Seriously says:

I agree. Vote for change. Wait! I’m confused. Is there a third party coming soon? Cause surely ya not talking about PLP. I don’t want OBA or PLP. Why go backwards?!

    • Islander says:

Really!!!! Where is your PLP rep, Lovitta, she was elected to act on St. David’s behalf and should be getting on Governments case re the conditions of our Community, but then, she doesn’t live in St. David’s. Continue on Warriors, all by ourselves. Want something done, call 297 Warriors.

      • drunken ursula says:

Ms. Foggo is always in St. Davids ..I often wonder how those folks over in the ole town work with kid rock and that clueless girl , they are never seen or heard from ????

    • Bill says:

I’m confused!! Are you saying “Government” and really mean Government workers/ Civil servants “ain’t done it in 7 months”? And you want to vote for change meaning “privatization”? On a better note Good Job my fellow brothers. Its good to see positive vibes in the community helping out. Respect

    • bee says:

      yes. let’s privatize W&E

Congratulations to the St-David’s football team! What a great way to contribute and to feel proud. It was a great honor for me to see them on my way.

Excellent job, the whole country needs to have more and more of its young people volunteering in service. The over-grown trees and wild bush are a real danger. Its also very kind of folks to feed these young men. I wonder if an arrangement can be made for those on court ordered community service can carry out this work, if St David,s has not seen this type of work in seven months imagine the rest of the Island. When I need landscaping I know who to call, rather than a regular company.

  4. Triangle Drifter says:

A great example set. Have any other clubs followed? Thinking especially of sports which have historically been the beneficaries of generous Government grants.

  5. Miss Chaple of Ease says:

What a stong positive message to send young people. Just wonderful to see such community spirit! Thank you so much, team St Davids! You rock!

  6. They worked harder than Works n Engineering crew!!! Most of them lazy n take their time working anyway, wasting tax payers money!

  7. filobedo21 says:

mmm so you would ask volunteers to do your property for free, rather than a regular firm, that hires people, pays a wage and taxes too. Praising these you men, great but the rest of your comment is idiotic. Think.

  8. Ladeej says:

Well done football team! It brought a smile to my face to see you. Great community spirit and an example to follow.

I agree with the suggestion that those on community service should be able to do similar works around the island. Why not?

And to be clear, the western end of St David’s has Suzanne Houshouser as MP, not Lovitta Foggo. But the problem with overgrowth is island-wide, and not limited to God’s country, St. David’s.

  9. Grizz says:

WOW!! For something so positive to receive all these negative comments is disheartening!! Why can’t you people just thank them and save all the other stuff for another day!
Well Done St. David’s Football team; I am sure the community appreciates your work!! ~BLESS
