  1. Rada Gast says:

How long since this happened previously and they had to rebuild the entire bridge? Either heighten the bridge or stop trucks going through it.

  2. Sickofantz says:

Trucks aren’t meant to go through it.

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

You’re right!…trucks are not meant to go THROUGH it…they’re meant to go UNDER it…

  3. In Mark's Opinion says:

Lowering the road will easier than raising than the bridge.

    • MH says:

Already investigated. Lowering road is not an option. Utilities running from West to East too close to surface.

      • Crickets says:

So lower the ulities! Anything is possible. You are confusing not easy to do, with not an option. Can we afford not to?

        • Casi says:

Would you want to pay for a lowering of the road in the Utilities rate bases? You’re also inviting flooding during rain season and vehicles will slide. All this just because some truck drivers don’t have the basic education required to drive a truck.

Is this like one of those word games where I need to shuffle the words around to make a logical sentence??

      • Micro says:

I guess reading comprehension gave you trouble in school. That sentence is very cogent and coherent.

        • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Oh really..? I guess reading each and every word of a sentence must have gave you trouble…did you finish big school?

    • Point boy says:

Just go around! There are lots of options. Or use the bus route

  4. wahoo says:

So….this is dumb. Why can trucks not be measured for their height before they get registered at TCD and then we let the driver know that he cannot go that way? Who pays to fix this bridge every time this happens?

    • Micro says:

You in the long term through higher insurance rates

    • MH says:

Insurance of the driver who collided with the bridge.

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Ok…so just to let you know…All overpasses requires posting a sign informing drivers of the maximum height that a vehicle can safely pass under…but i guess this would never pertain to any vehicle that YOU would ever drive…

  5. Terry says:

I thought we drove on the left in Bermuda.

The truck hit after it was almost through…………………..damn……

  6. Paul Revere says:

One or two things come to mind when looking at the car stuck on the fallen debris.
    Following too close or speed.

    Just saying

  7. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Bierman’s concrete trucks travelled that way for many years…caution is needed when traversing that bit of road…big vehicle’s have to go under in the center of the Arch…I’m sure W/E trucks go that way all the time…If this happens it from due care and attention.

  8. Accurate says:

    W&E truck. Hmmm!

    • Herb says:

It was indeed a W&E truck it was carrying a big dumpster the type up at tynes bay and should not have been going on that road with that height of the dumpster even if it tried the middle of the bridge it would have hit, I came by a minute or so after the hit.

  9. Onion says:

W&E truck was exactly who hit the bridge this time!! So the taxpayers will be fixing the bridge.

  10. Triangle Drifter says:

W&E driver. Guess nobody should be surprised. Ferry pilots smash into docks. Truck drivers smash into a bridge which has been there decades.

Was he checked for drugs or alcohol? Doubt it. Any consequences? Demoted to driving a street broom maybe?

    • Point boy says:

Don’t forget about the bus in front of Great Things

  11. mmm says:

If there is a height restrictionn, IT SHOULD BE CLEARLY POSTED, large vehicles do have to approach with their vehicle on or over the center line. The bridge has a slight arch which might suggest to the driver of a large vehicle he/she can get through. If the fault is one of gross negligence, then the driver should pay, everyone else,s insurance should not have to up, up and up. Taxpayers don,t have it like that. A truck damaged the bridge about ten years ago, with similar damages. Per haps a speed bump can improve the situation, keep in mind also the bridge is virtually on a bend therefore limited sight.

  12. JohnBoy says:

I didn’t know the bridge had a name.

  13. Sage says:

Yep, and it’s nickname is “Ouch”.
Pretty simple for W&E to ban their drivers from using that road. But then Furbert will get involved and shut down the island in protest.

  14. Boater says:

How about a sign indicating the max height for vehicles going under de bridge.

  15. Charlie says:

    …how about not tailgating???
