US Bans Samsung Note 7 Phones On Airplanes

October 16, 2016

The U.S. Department of Transportation with the Federal Aviation Administration [FAA] on Friday [Oct 14] announced it is issuing an emergency order to ban all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the United States.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said, “Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States.

“This prohibition includes all Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices. The phones also cannot be shipped as air cargo. The ban will be effective on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at noon ET.”

“We recognize that banning these phones from airlines will inconvenience some passengers, but the safety of all those aboard an aircraft must take priority,” said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “We are taking this additional step because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk.”

A Bermuda Airport Operations spokesperson told Bernews, “All US bound travelers at LF Wade are being reminded of the new Transportation Security Administration [TSA] restrictions placed on the Samsung mobile phone by both security and airline personnel.

“The ban will be enforced accordingly until such time that it is lifted or otherwise revised by the TSA.”

The way that the ask you at the boarding gate is hilarious. They basically say that the phones are banned and will not be allowed on the plane. Then they ask you to come to the desk if you have the phone. Most people will just stash the phone rather than volunteering to have it confiscated where they will never see it again.

Samsung should setup some kiosk in major international airports where it will swap out peoples old batteries/phones for the fixed ones. W
