Woman Treated For Smoke Inhalation After Fire

October 21, 2016

At approximately 4:51pm today [Oct 21], the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a house fire on Summit View Drive in Hamilton Parish.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded with 3 vehicles and 9 personnel, and Staff Officer Delton White stated, “On arrival of the Fire Service, smoke could be seen emitting from the front of the residence.

“Firefighters dressed in full protective gear entered the residence to find the fire had been practically extinguished by area residents before their arrival, and the firefighters then removed smoldering objects to completely extinguish them outside of the residence.

“Once the fire was deemed to be under control the firefighters carried out ventilation of the residence. The fire was contained to one room and the dwelling sustained minimal fire damage and minor smoke damage.

“The Fire Service would like to thank the area residents who bravely extinguished the fire prior to the Fire Service arrival and who also assisted an elderly woman to exit the house during the fire.

“The elderly woman experienced smoke inhalation and was transmitted to King Edward Memorial Hospital via ambulance for evaluation.

“The cause and extent of damage is currently under investigation.”
